Oh Gayong Fighter!!!

The late Mahaguru had forseen that Silat Seni Gayong will be spread all over the world. To compare with other martial arts like Judo or Karate, Pencak Silat takes a much longer time to develop in foreign countries due to the traditional mentality and spiritual believes of Malay people. The secrecy and the loyalty is always a cloth for a Malay.

Even the late Mahaguru himself, at first, didn't allow that Silat Seni Gayong taught to the Non-Malay or Non-Moslem. But the destiny does what had been written, and Silat Seni Gayong has opened the door to the foreigner, with certain condition that must be respected.

The condition is made to keep the "Daulah" of Silat Seni Gayong. An Anak Gayong must be loyal to his Master, or Masters. He must follow the "Adat" of Silat Seni Gayong, while at the same time teach in a way that can promote the art without revealing the secret. The real art of Gayong only be taught to a loyal Anak Gayong, as what as the late Dato' said about his daughter, the late Cikgu Siti Kalsom, "to the sea, to the land, she always here with me, and she is the Ibu Gayong: the mother of Gayong"

After years of training and learning, we start to have confident on our abilities. We don't fear of any duel, and accept all the challenge. We found that we are the only Gayong fighter, and the only Gayong protector in our place. We are young and furious, and sometime jealous, when someone surpass us. We want more and more, and willing to spend our time, our energy, our money and sacrifice everything just to be stronger and more knowledgable in Gayong.

This competition, is good in one way. But sometime, it brings us to the "Ujub" (arrogant), and starts to lower down everyone. We think others learn Gayong in the wrong way, and their Cikgu teachs the rubbish thing to the student. We mix the politics with the "Ilmu" (knowledge), and avoiding and critisizing certain Masters, eventhough they were the direct students of the late Mahaguru. We fear the "Khilafiah" (the difference) inside the syllabus and refuse to recognize other's talent. But finally, who is the loser? We, as a young Gayong student who need to find everywhere the science, or those Masters, who had the science already directly from the late Mahaguru.

The late Mahaguru didn't teach the art of Gayong to one person. We must find it all. Learning with various Master doesn't mean at all a betrayal or disloyalty. Respect them, love and care them, and never forget what our Master taught until we become of what we are.

But please, be open-minded person. Try to welcome other Gayong brothers, and learn from him if you didn't know, as he can learn from us of what he doesn't know. It is never an humiliation to be a student from anyone. The right to teach, to open a Gelanggang, to share, and to spread this art is the right for every Cikgu has. Once he has the Ijazah (permission) from his Master and Gayong Federation, and after following the local rules, he can be if he wants to, at least, to be as a farmer who grows the seeds of Gayong in a fertile foreign land, so that the trees can be a shadow for a passenger to take a rest during a sunny day, and it can give the fruits for the benefit of everyone.....

Salam Persaudaraan for all brothers and sisters. Cheers.

ILMU FIRASAT

Silat cannot saparate from the mystic thing. The unseen world is common for a Master in Silat. Seems Malay people is really attached with the tradition and religion, it is easy to learn some "Kebatinan" lesson with Silat masters. I am not trying to discuss again about the term of "Kebatinan" here. But one of the lesson that my Master taught to me is about the "Firasat", or the instinct. It happens, and it is not just a spiritual, but it can be trained too.

There is the destiny that we cannot avoid, and others we can escape. The death for example is inevitable. Our death neither belated nor avanced for a milisecond. The time was fixed long enough by the God himself in the Luh Mahfuz before the creation of this universe. But for those who are aware about the signs, they know when will the Angel Izrael come to take their soul. The sign, whether in the form of tiny muscles vibration or the exterior sign like viewing someone or something, is the secret the only the beleiver has.

With science nowadays, we learn that we are an organism, that has a source of energy that keep we alive. But even in physics we learn that the energy cannot be destroyed. It can be transformed, transfered or changed. So where will our "energy" go after kick the bucket? Is the energy is transformed and dissappear in the air, or taken by the soil? The body, yes, it will be changed to the various compounds, gaz and absorbed by the air and soil. But our "energy" will still. This "energy" has the purpose of it's creation, and has his fixed destination. It is just a matter of a time.

This so called "energy" is our soul. My soul, share the same dimension with your's and others'. In physical appearence, we need the tongue to speak, the language to communicate, and the body gesture to express ourselves. But in the unseen world of the soul, we don't speak a world, but we share the information and we know each other eventhough it is the first time we met.

I still remember one of my Master's story about his Master. One day, my Master was sitting with his Master, who I'll name as Great Master. The Great Master asked him what is he thinking. The Master kept silence for a while, but suddenly laughed. His Great Master asked him why did he laugh. My Master said that, you said "Monkey" to me! Both of them laughed and the Great Master admitted that it was true.

By the way, there is the destiny that we can actually avoid. If you had an accident, and you survive, eventhough you broke your arm or scratch your face, it means that the accident can be avoid if you give more attention to those signs. But if you don't survive, than it's your destiny, that the time to go meet your Creator has come. One of the lesson that we learned is to check always the respiration, whether it's Nafas Kanan (right), Nafas Kiri (left), Nafas Tajam (sharp) and so on (Nafas, Anfas, Tanaffas dan Nufus). There are also the Petua Gayong before starting the battle. We will know whether we win or we loose. We will know that someone is going to see us in couple of minutes, hours, days or weeks. And we will know whether his intention is good or bad.

A Master told me that one day, he wanted to go to the market with someone's car. The guy came by with his car, and the Master went out from his house and stepped on his slipper. He found that there is something wrong with his "Nafas" (respiration), and said to the guy that he doesn't feel well at the time being and apologize to bother that guy for coming fetch him up. That guy went to the market alone. An hour after, my Master got a message that the guy had a serious car accident and passed away....

Unfortunately, sometimes, this secret lesson can be misused by the irresponsible people. The most wanted thieft, is so hard to be caught because he knows the secret of the instinct. He knows when the policemen are coming. He knows what is happening around him. But finally he was caught by the help of his own Master who taught him the lesson...

InsyaAllah, there are many Malay secrets to be sought from the senior Masters. As one of them always says to me "Take it (the knowledge), as it is not useful for me in the tomb...." Silat Seni Gayong is just not only Kuncian, Kombat, or Pukulan. There are many science and "Ilmu" that we can search and learn. Certain words or terms, I write it the way that I heard from the Masters. It maybe different from one Master to another. My hope that this will give some information and motivation to those who are interested in the mysticism of Silat, especially in Silat Seni Gayong.....
ZAAATTTTT!!!!

Preparation for La Malaisie...

Another day with a lot of uncertainity of the future. We got 3 weeks before every one of Master student depart for the internship all over the world. Some will go to USA, some to Canada, some to Spain, to England, and me I'm going to my own country insyaAllah. So many reason why I must go there. First of all, of course, the research subject offered by UPM is interesting and more and less, I know how to deal with the subject. Secondly, the UPM is one of my target in my list, that I'm interested to be a lecturer there. Yes, I like teaching. Since I was in secondary school, the idea of being a researcher, submerged in the ocean of the knowledge and the chance to transfer it to the students always attract me. So the chance to get accepted there will allow me to understand the system, which is important for my future plan of doing the PhD. Allah knows best what He reserves me for the future....

Other reasons, of course, to be with my family. Since 7-8 years, the longest period that I stayed with my family is about 5 months (3 months internship + 2 months summer holiday). I miss so much my Ma, Abah, Mek, brothers & sisters, families and friends. For Ma, I miss her very much, and her Ayam Pedas, Sweet and Sour Bawal Fish, Masak Lemak Pucuk Paku and Kuih "Pindang" (Pin-de). For my Abah, I'm hoping that he will be recovered in health after having an operation of his back bone. And my Mek, who always cries everytime I call her, your grandson is coming home God willing. I found that everything changes so fast, and I barely realize that my little sister Ayu will become a doctor really soon, and my little brother Hafiz and Syafiq become the grown men now. I know that how many weddings of my best friends that I missed, and I know how I couldn't turn back the time. But at least this is the best time to visit them.

But going back for good is not an easy task. I still need to prepare to my appartment here in Paris for the land lord, bring my cat Joix to the veterinarian to get the Health certificate, getting my Titre de Sejour (Resident Card), preparing my voyage to Scandinavia and Greece, buying some stuff for my wedding ceremony, paying all my debts here and there, confirming the airlines ticket Paris-Kuala Lumpur, getting the approval from my Director of Master, getting approval for the scholarship, getting approval from Sphere and JPA, revising my notes for at least 4 papers ahead, and last but not least, looking forward for the last Silat Seni Gayong France seminar before going back to Malaysia.

If it is not because that I have faith in Allah, I must have given up studying here in France. Coming to France to learn one or two years, and the course is made in English, then it is quite easy. But when we are here from the beginning for the Baccalauréat, then 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles in the academic, we found that La France is not as welcoming as it's appearance in front of the tourist... But still, Silat Seni Gayong France is one of my motivation to be here again insyaAllah! ;)

For all Anak Gayong Perancis (France), see you in March. Be there for the graduation!!!
