Grappling in Gayong

Most of the fight would end on the ground. It could happen especially when having the opponent who is well-trained with the wrestling-jujitsu techniques. The late Dato' Meor was also well trained in the grappling style. As like as in Gayong, there is also in Kelantan, "Seni Silat Jatuh", a name of the Silat art practiced of Kelantanese people, consist of the same technique of grappling, projection, submission, locking and even "combat-au-sol" (ground fighting). Master Cikgu Awang Daud, is one of a living Gayong Master who still has the art of grappling. Assisted by his son Cikgu Adi, the ADMAA (Awang Daud Martial Art Academy), is expanding their empire of sharing the art of the street fighting. ;). Talking about his experience in Kelantan, Cikgu Awang Daud had faced many Kelantanese fighters, mostly the grapplers, before being allowed to open the Gayong Gelanggang in Kelantan. On of the most thrilling was in front of the late Cikgu Haji Hamid Kopi, the Master of many Silat, and one became the first Gayong chief in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan....

One of the question that anyone could ask is, do we need the "Kebatinan" in every Gayong technique? I met couple of Masters and asked them about the high-level Gayong techniques like Yoi, Cindai dan Belian. It exists indeed the "Kebatinan" in every each secret technique. "Ayat" for Cindai (to harden the clothes), for Yoi (speed/"walking on air") and for Belian (strength and fierce-looking). However, the more important is the physical skill, than the kebatinan. The skill of executing the cindai technique of "Pukat", for example, is very vital as the real battle happens only in milisecond.

The human strength also can be built up by physical training, and also the internal training. During the normal respiration, only certain amount of oxygen is used for the metabolisme process. To increase the efficiency of the process, specific method of respiration is practiced for every part of our body. That's why the Jurus of Bunga Teratai, Jurus Bunga Tanjung and other respiration moves were among the regular practice of the old Gayong folks.

In our search to satisfy our curiosity of the secrecy of Kebatinan in Gayong, the old Master always advice us. Never stop training. All of the lesson and syllabus is useless, if we are not skillful and master the art. However, as the Gurulatih, the research of Kebatinan also needed as one part of Gayong knowledge. To practice it is one different thing, but to know it in it's original form will complete our understanding in Silat Seni Gayong.....

baru pulang dari taiping. dok relek2 baca komik. puas baca komik layan internet. ade beberapa perkara datang pada fikiran ambo. nak baca boleh, taknak sudah. cuma disebabkan kerana gayong perdana yang akan diadakan nanti adalah "antarabangsa", maka topik yg nak diperbualkan di sini pon berkenaan dgn hal itu. ambo bukanlah orang yg hebat dlm gayong. masih baru dan masih muda. tapi yg bezanya rezeki ambo yg jauh ke perancis. bila di sana, untuk mengelakkan ambo hanyut hilang tanpa tujuan dan hilang ilmu perguruan dalam diri, ambo ambil inisiatif untuk membuka gelanggang. seawal 2003. seingat-ingat ambo, tahun 2005 guru ambo Tuan Haji Mansor datang, dibawanya sekali surat kebenaran dari arwah cikgu siti kalsom mengizinkan gelanggang dibuka di perancis. hakikatnya, membuka gelanggang bukan perkara yang senang. Gelanggang di perancis ambo buka dengan membuat perlantikan AJK dan perlembagaan dan didaftarkan pada bahagian pertubuhan di bandar Montlucon pada waktu itu. Gelanggang pula ada yang tetap, dan ada yg berubah-ubah tempatnya kerana ambo masih pelajar waktu itu. Perbelanjaan tak perlu diceritakan, lebih banyak yang dibelanjakan dari yang dapat.

cuma ada sesetengah guru silat, yang datang ke oversea, duduk beberapa lama untuk mengajar, ambil gambar dan pulang ke tanahair bercerita dengan gahnya tentang kehebatan usahanya. Ambo puji pada guru-guru sebegini yang sanggup berkorban untuk mengembangkan ilmu tinggal anak ini, lagi2 untuk Gayong. Apa yang dicapai itu, kalau elok maka eloklah. kalau tak elok, itu masalah dia. Tetapi apabila ia melibatkan diri kita, maruah kita, gelanggang kita, dan anak-anak murid kita, maka takkan hendak dibiarkan fitnah itu berleluasa? Gambar boleh diterjemah kepada seribu cerita....

ambo ulang, ambo tidak sehebat guru2 Gayong yg lama di perantauan seperti Cikgu Sulaiman, Cikgu Mufti, Cikgu Ariffin atau Cikgu Sam. tapi cukuplah pengalaman yang ada selama hampir 8 tahun untuk membolehkan ambo berkongsi keadaan di sana. Membuka Gelanggang di Eropah adalah perkara yang senang pada permulaannya. Tetapi yang susahnya adalah untuk mengekalkannya. Disebabkan kerana kualiti pengajaran dan pemelajaran, pentadbiran, infrastruktur, professionalisma, bahkan kejujuran perlu diambil kira.

amat senang untuk ke satu2 tempat, menawarkan diri membuat workshop/bengkel/kursus percuma untuk silaturrahim. kerana orang2 eropah memang dahagakan ilmu, dan suka berkawan. menjemput guru perguruan lain ke dalam gelanggang berkongsi ilmu adalah perkara biasa di eropah. bukan seperti di malaysia yang mana gurulatih gelanggang akan merasa terhina orang lain mengajar di tempatnya.

Tetapi untuk mengekalkan gelanggang itu bukan perkara yang senang. Selepas setahun, berapakah ahli yang memakai baju Gayong yang masih datang ke latihan? selepas 2 tahun, berapa ramaikah yang sudah ke Bengkung Putih dan Hijau? Selepas 3 tahun, adakah yang sudah mencapai tahap bengkung merah sebagai jurulatih? Dan begitulah tahun2 seterusnya. Ahli Gayong perlu bertambah dari segi kualitinya, dan perpaduannya.

Kerana itu, sebelum kita berani bercakap "oh, saya sudah buka gelanggang di negara itu dan itu", maka tunjukkanlah buktinya. Ramai yang datang untuk mencari duit senang di negara eropah. Kalau kena caranya, bagus lah. Tapi yang menipu, memfitnah, melaga-lagakan orang, merampas, memaksa dan sebagainya bukanlah cara seorang guru Gayong. Mahu menilai pencapaian gurulatih di luar negara, maka perlu datang tengok dengan mata kepala sendiri. Lihat apa yang ada. Banyakkah muridnya? Semakin berkembangkah? Atau hanya "Indah khabar dari rupa"....?

Tak perlu komen apa2. cuma, sedar2lah kesilapan diri. tak perlu dicanang kepada semua orang mengatakan diri kita difitnah oleh orang tu, difitnah oleh orang ni. Nampak sangat kalutnya. Terlebih-lebih menegakkan benang yang basah akan memakan diri. Jangan paksa orang dedahkan bukti aib perbuatan buruk kita. Dah orang dok diam-diam pun dah cukup bagus tak buka angkara kita. Rehat2lah. Selagi ada masa kita hidup, guna masa yang ada untuk perbaiki kesilapan kita. Minta maaf pada orang yang kita pernah tikam belakang dulu. Minta maaf pada murid yang kita pernah peralatkan dulu.

nak bertanya cerita luar negara, hanya yang berada di sana sahaja yang tahu keadaannya. Behati-hati bercakap... kelak akan makan diri...

The photo was taken when the first day I brought my wife and our new born to our house from the hospital. (Which has been almost a year now!) Most of these Panglima and SriKandi, nowadays, will be at the last semester here in Universiti Malaysia Pahang. (One of them has been working now). I hope that the time that we had spent together, and will spend for the next final semester will be the best time here in UMP. I do hope that they will be always the good and excellent engineers and Gurulatihs after graduating from UMP. Hope that what we share here in Naga Rantau will be useful for our lives. For my little Aryan, I am sure he will be proud to know that his coming was accompanied by eleven future Gayong Masters.... ;)

Gelihati Membaca Kertas Jawapan

2 minggu yang lepas, kami di Naga Rantau selesai Ujian Praktikal dan Ujian Teori sebelum study week di akhir semester. Ujian Praktikal dilakukan di kampus Pekan dan Gambang. Ujian Teori sebanyak 20 soalan yang dipecahkan kepada 4 bahagian: Falsafah Gayong, Silibus/Pelajaran Gayong, Adat Gayong dan Sejarah & Pentadbiran Gayong. Sambil ambo sibuk marking exam semester student ambo subjek Thermodynamics dan Fluid Mechanics, ambo jenguk2 exam anak-anak Gayong Naga Rantau.....

Jawapan Anak-anak Gayong yang masih muda remaja ini berjaya menceriakan ambo yang terlalu sibuk dengan tugas-tugas rasmi fakulti dan universiti. Geli hati sungguh. Hehehehhe. Ambo bagi contoh beberapa jawapan yang agak di luar jangkaan. Buat pengetahuan, mereka ini adalah murid yang diuji untuk peringkat pertama iaitu bengkung Awan Putih. Tapi diakhir ujian diminta nyanyikan lagu Gayong. Adusss.... fail!!!! ;)

Apa-apapun, tahniah di atas kejayaan, bagi yang gagal, harap jangan putus asa, kita jumpa lagi semester depan ye. InsyaAllah....! ;)

From Gerakan we go to Elakan, either Elak Kosong or Elak Pukul. From Elak Pukul we could proceed to Pukulan. From Pukulan we could proceed to Kuncian, or vice-versa. Either Kunci Mati or Kunci Hidup, it's the "Badi-Dan" that counts.

*"Badi-Dan" means those who is faster, in Kelantanese dialect.

The basic Elakan system in Silat Seni Gayong is 49 techniques. Originally it was only 10 Elakan, and the rest are all in the Pukulan, Kombat and Kunci.

The Elakan syllabus is then completed by the Elakan Kaki, Buah Kaki, Buah Lutut and Buah Siku.

All of these lessons were the most basic thing we learn in Silat Seni Gayong. The reason why it is learned at the beginning is that these lessons are the most important training one should know. Even in Capoeira, I asked my Master. "Why in Capoeira we don't learn how to block the attack?" He simply looked at me and smiled. "Could you block a moving lorry Tranquinho???" I said "no". And he continued "Then you have to know how to escape from the 'attack'"!......

That answer complete my understanding in Elakan......

Never forget "13th MAY 1969"

The drawing of Dato' Meor who was said to have had foreseen the insident. The crying eye, the red stars, the fire etc were the tellling horrible war.

The incident 13th May 1969 was a horrible memory to our country. The war had caused lives, properties and even the integrity of Malaysian. The civil war between Malay people and Chinese Malaysian was initiated by the racist movement of the communist partie among the Chinese and the was amplified during the General Election 1969. It was truely regretted and mourned for all Malaysian.

I met several Gayong masters who had been in the civil war. Most of them in were young at that time, and were ready to die in the name of protecting their families and faith. They used the bamboo, stick, stones, knives, machettes or keris to fight with the rifles and guns. The late Dato' Meor Abdul Rahman, was among the Silat Grandmasters in Malaysia who were called to the house of Dato' Harun Idris, the State Minister of Selangor. The purpose was to calm down the Malay people, after few tragedies of the massacre of Malay people by the extremist PKM (communist) and the chinese gangster. One of the most horrible was a pregnant Malay woman who was tortured and killed, been cut off her womb and brought out the unborn. The extremist used the iron hook which used for the pork (as to humiliate the sensitivity of Malay people) to hook the unborn child out from her womb.The story said that she however took back the unborn child and and hug him/her before died.

The woman tourturing-to-death was one of the kind happened during that time. The uncontrolled massive racist demonstration had sparked into a civil war in Kuala Lumpur. And that was the time where the "army of Red shoulder-strap" of Gayong was called in. One Dalang (warlord) for forty Panglima (knights). And there were few Dalangs. It was then only those machettes were seen flying, while the knights were all invisible. I am not sure whether the Dalang or knights could come from other Silat school, because the story that was told to me were from the Gayong Masters. But I do beleive all of the Silat Masters gatheres with their knights for the war.

The war-shirt in the photo was one that still safe in the kept of Cikgu Majid Mat Isa. It was painted with a war "wafaq" of Dato' Meor. It was a symbol of the Dalang. It was those who wore the "Selendang Merah". It was those who lead 40 knights during the civil war.... There were still the red-dot marks on the shirt. It was the blood that still remained on it.

I am not trying to remind our Malaysian folks any of these horrible things. Never I intend to touch the sensitivity of Malay, Chinese or anyone here reading my post. But the turth is, it happened, and it could happen again if we don't take the lesson from it. It key is the unity of Malay people, and the integrity of Malay-Chinese-Indian community in our country. All of us must understand that the constitution of Malaysia must be RESPECTED. Never forget what our old generation had fought for. We could live in peace, we could live happily. But this peaceful could be taken away from our people if we do not unite. Maybe we had taken the struggle of uniting our people lightly. It is then the time to react.

As the prime minister had said once, Silat Seni Gayong is the 3rd defense of our country after the Army and the Police. Never let the different politic views saparates us away. Never. Our old folks had been there before, united. I am worried if it happened, (wanau'zubillahi min zalik, may God protect us from that happens), Gayong won't be ready in that time, because has been busy of quarelling who will be the leader, and who get that rights or not......

JUBLI EMAS SILAT SENI GAYONG 2012

Cikgu Sazali Meor Abdul Rahman & Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak

As mentioned by the President of PSSGM, Dato' Adiwijaya Abdullah, and confirmed by the HQ office, the Prime Minister Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak has kindly confirmed his presence during the event of international and national Gayong gathering 2012, known as Jubli Emas Silat Seni Gayong. The sacred date is fixed, for the time being, on 11th of February 2011. The venue will be at Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

The main purpose is to gather all of Silat Seni Gayong practitioner inside the country and also internationally. A massive demonstration from every PSSGM team of every state, and hopefully the demonstration from the international Gayong team will be held. The event is also meant to award the Bengkung (Belt) and Sandang to those Gayong practitioner who had excelled in their effort of prapagating Silat Seni Gayong in their countries/places. We are still waiting the confirmations from the international Gayong association, from France, U.S, U.K and other places. Hope some of them could be here in this historical event. ;)

I do hope this event will be greater than Perdana Gayong 2010 in Ampang insyaAllah.The Perdana Gayong 2010 was held in the year of TIGER. Hopefully this "DRAGON" year will be the year of Silat Seni Gayong.....again! ;)

GILA TEKPI

My visit to the exibition of Prophet Muhammad and the Companions Swords and Seni Silat Pusaka Gayung Malaysia at Kedah last time was truly a meaningful one. Since in the beginning, my favorite weapon is always the Tekpi (or Sai in Japanese). Gila Tekpi is crazy about the Tekpi. Tekpi Gila is another thing. He He He. Unfortunately, the art of this weapon in Silat Seni Gayong is not so extensively taught, compared with the other weapons.

I learned Tekpi with few Masters, in Silat Seni Gayong, and also in traditional village Silat. In Gayong, it was at Gelanggang Gong Serapat where I started to learn Tekpi. It was one of the "heritage" from Cikgu Awang Daud when he was in Pasir Puteh. After that, I learned Tekpi with my late Guru, Ayah Ku Misai Panjang, a Master of Silat Seni Tujuh Permainan (7 arts), who had passed away in 2009. He never named specificaly his Silat, but his Silat has 7 arts, included Tekpi and Ibu Tekpi; "Mother of Tekpi" (other version is Tok Mertua Tekpi ; "Father in law of Tekpi"). After that I took every chance to learn even one single move from various Masters like Cikgu Amin Hamzah, the late Pak Jab (Gayong 3 Kalimah), Ayah Jak Silat Lian, and even in the other martial arts, especially from Karate Okinawan style when I was in France.

But being someone who is crazy about Tekpi, I search and search until I got the information about the late Pak Guru Jaafar, the Master of Silat Panglima Garang. I was in France for many years, and my intention to come and learn from him was buried when he passed away few years ago. His "fancy-like" Tekpis drive me crazy, and being able to touch and play them was always my dream. But during the exposition, the owner of those Tekpis, Cikgu Mokhtar, had kindly allow me to touch, to hold and even to play with them a little it. He had even shown us the techniques of playing it. One word I could say: "WoW".

There are many type of Tekpi. Just to name few, Tekpi Gedang, Tekpi Raja Nandung, Tekpi Gagak Lapar and others. It is said that in that style, they have 9 type of Tekpi. Some Masters who know the art are still alive in Kedah. Hmmmm.... I think I'll be frequent in Sungai Petani this year insyaAllah. He he he.

Thanks a lot to Cikgu Mokhtar, and all Gayong brothers who were there with me. Especially to Cikgu Ismail, the senior Master who knows to be humble and "hungry" for the knowledge. InsyaAllah, as I said, hope that I could manage my time correctly to be in North in this 2012. This is only one example of the richness of Malay tradition of art of war, weapons and craftmanship. Hope that the more we learn, the closer we'll be to our destination. Amin....

Last weekend I visited the training centre of Pusaka Gayung at Gurun, Kedah. I was informed by Mejar Fitri about the annual program of extensive course and grading at the end of the every year, which is also the birthday of Pak Andak (Cikgu) Majid Mat Isa. Sincerely, at first it was quite strange to be here among the person that I didn't know. But my intention is clear, as I want to know more about Gayong family in Pusaka Gayong, Cikgu Majid, Cikgu Awang and all other senior Gayong Masters in Kedah.

My arrival was welcomed by Mejar Fitri, and also Cikgu Jad. We had a chat before I was presented to the Gurulatihs and the masters during the course. Cikgu MatRock is one of the name I remember instantly. hehe. ;) The traning was so intense of every corner of the gelanggang. The pre-white group, the white group, the green group, the red, the yellow and even the black belt grading participants trained so well and non stop for the best result during the grading. I also had a chance to have a syllabus discussion with Cikgu Faiz, one of the "actor" of the latest Pusaka Gayong book, TETAK.

After the grading, all of the Masters gathered in the hall for the closing ceremony, where all of the participants who were succeeded in the grading will be awarded the Belt and the Sandang. Most of the Masters here I met was the very first time eventhough I had heard their names since very long time. There were many of them very senior students of Dato Meor and still active until now. Among of them, I met Cikgu Fadhil, the Deputy Chief of Pusaka Gayung, Cikgu Ismail Chik of Penang, and also Cikgu Baem (Ibrahim), one of the specialist in breaking skills in Silat Seni Gayung Pusaka.

Cikgu Siti Fadhilah, the daugther of Dato' Meor Abdul Rahman was also invited to award the Sandang to those who had given a lot of sacrifice to Silat Seni Gayong. Some were chosen to be awarded with the Sandang of Singa Malaya, Panglima Pelangi Hitam, Waris Beradat, Ketua Beradat, Khalifah Besar, Khalifah, Imam Gelanggang, Naqibah Gelanggang, Timbalan Imam Gelanggang and even Setia Bakti. Alhamdulillah, the time spent there, I had a chat with Cikgu Majid and other senior Master about the Sandang hirearchy in Pusaka Gayong.

I was also introduced to the senior Gurulatihs as Cikgu Atan, Cikgu Din, and many others. They were generous to share many of their thoughts, their history and even their skills in the Gayong techniques. Special thanks to Cikgu Atan for the sharing. I know that you won't read this because of your "ban" to the yahoo-facebook-blog things, but I would really to express my appriciation for the spontanous locks at the lunch table! ;)

The time spent there was so meaningful for me and one of my student. I do feel that there is still the border between the Anak-anak gayong which makes us more and more saparated. I hold to the idea of we are One Gayong. One Mahaguru. One brotherhood. And this is the very first challenge of every Gayong practitioner in malaysia. I am sure that in France, or in oversea, this kind of problem is still not yet become critical. But if we don't do anything to change this, never that Gayong will be united.

We (Naga Rantau) intend to visit more Gayong Masters in Kedah next time insyaAllah. Whether the Masters are in Gayong Malaysia, Pusaka, Warisan, Pasak, Serantau or even alone in their own association. I hope that our sincere intention is not being menipulated by those who doesn't want to see us being good with everyone. Love for Gayong.

Universiti adalah institusi yang menghasilkan graduan dalam pelbagai bidang. Apabila para graduan dapat menamatkan pengajian dengan baik selepas melepasi segala ujian yang diperlukan, maka sijil graduasi akan dianugerahkan, bergantung kepada markah setiap graduan. Adanya tahap untuk seperti kelas 1, kelas 2 dan kelas 3, adalah untuk mengklasifikasikan graduan mengikut pemahaman mereka dalam ilmu yang diperlajari.

Selepas graduasi, maka tiba masa untuk setiap graduan ke alam professional. Sewaktu inilah cabaran baru yang mana praktikal melebihi teori. Hakikatnya, sebagai contoh, seorang graduan dalam bidang kejuruteraan aeroangkasa hampir pasti tidak akan menemui kerja sebagai jurutera aeroangkasa di Malaysia, tetapi tetap boleh bekerja dalam bidang kejuruteraan lain di industri atau bidang akademik, memandangkan asas kejuruteraan itu sama sahaja.

Semua itu hanya kerana ilmu yang dipelajari telah diuji di akademi yang ternama dan diiktiraf oleh golongan akedemik universiti terbabit yang mana adanya kawalan kualiti dari masa ke semasa. Itulah yang dikejar oleh kebanyakan universiti baru yang mana memerlukan akreditasi dari pihak tertentu sebagai penanda kualiti pedagoji, kajian dan graduan mereka.

Itu situasi di Universiti.

Seandainya kita pula mahu menjadikan pengajian Silat Seni Gayong mempunyai standard yang bagus sebagaimana yang ditinggalkan oleh Allahyarham Dato' Meor Abdul Rahman, maka Ujian itu juga perlu. Kenaikan Bengkung itu perlu. Bahkan, penganugerahan Sandang juga adalah perlu untuk pihak yang layak. Kerana setiap ilmu itu perlu diuji dan diakui sah oleh penguji yang sudah pasti mempunyai pengalaman dalam bidang tersebut.

Silat Seni Gayong menyaksikan bagaimana Dato' Meor Abdul Rahman telah menguji setiap muridnya, tetapi ada juga yang diberi anugerah Bengkung dan Sandang. Itu adalah Hak mutlak Mahaguru. Kerana beliau mempunyai ilmu dan firasat berkenaan kebolehan setiap muridnya. Tetapi generasi kini tidak boleh sama sekali mengamalkan budaya menganugerahkan Bengkung. Secara logiknya, Bengkung itu melambangkan tahap pengajian ilmu seseorang. Maka apalah gunanya menganugerahkan Bengkung, walhal ilmu itu belum diuji masak atau belum pelajaran tersebut.

Sandang boleh dianugerahkan, tetapi perlu diingatkan, Sandang juga ada Sandang Adat, Sandang Jawatan, Sandang Gurulatih dan Sandang Kehormat. Kalau dianugerahkan Sandang Gurulatih pada yang tidak pandai bersilat, yang mana hanya dikatakan "berjasa", maka punahkan daulat Sandang tersebut. Kerana siapa yang memakai sandang tersebut mesti seorang yang pandai bersilat, boleh mengajar, bahkan boleh memimpin pasukan demonstrasi. Kalau faktor umur yang diambil kira, dan seseorang itu punya pengetahuan yang mendalam dalam adat resam Gayong, maka elok dianugerah sahaja sandang Adat. Paling mudah, anugerahkan sahaja Sandang Kehormat. Itu lebih Adil, yakni meletakkan benda kena pada tempatnya. Seandainya pihak yang mempunyai kuasa memberi sandang ini tersilap menilai, maka pincanglah adat....

Berbalik kepada Bengkung. Bengkung hanya sehelai kain yang dijahit. Tiada nilainya secara meterial. Kerana itu orang-orang lama tidak meletakkan nilai pada warna Bengkung. Kerana itu orang-orang yang faham tentang nilai ilmu tidak gilakan Bengkung. Kerana yang dicari hanya keberkatan ilmu itu, yang berupaya mendekatkan diri kita pada Allah, dan menjaga maruah diri, keluarga, agama, bangsa dan tanahair kita apabila diperlukan.

Tetapi, bagi golongan muda, yang rata-rata sudah pandai di zaman kini, perlu kembali kepada konsep ilmu yang diuji. Kerana itu, UJIAN untuk setiap bengkung adalah WAJIB untuk menjaga kualiti. Bukan dengan hanya menghadiri kursus maka Bengkung diberi. Datang kursus, tetapi pelajaran kursus itu perlu diuji di hari terakhir. Dengan cara ini sahajalah maka kualiti Gurulatih itu dapat dijaga.

Dan setiap dari kita perlu juga kembali kepada budaya timba mencari perigi. Perlunya merantau untuk mencari guru, ilmu dan sahabat. Perlunya dibuang segala sentimen kaum, golongan, kumpulan dan pertubuhan. Mungkin secara pentadbiran dan "di atas kertas", kita tergolong kepada pertubuhan tertentu, tetapi pencarian ilmu perlu menjangkaui batas pentadbiran. Kerana ilmu itu hak Allah. Kerana mencantumkan perhubungan itu kewajipan setiap antara kita. Buang sifat ketaksuban pada satu guru. Segala percakapan kurang enak tentang satu-satu guru itu kita angguk sahaja, tapi biar ia pergi lesap dalam udara. Tapi sebelum dapat menilai satu-satu guru, apa salahnya kita pergi dulu bertemu "mengambil rasa"... bukankah itu satu perbuatan yang afdhal dan mulia?

Mungkin pertubuhan kita berbeza. Mungkin keahlian kita berlainan. Tetapi satu-satunya tempat untuk setiap Anak Gayong berjumpa dan bergabung ialah di majlis-majlis ilmu. Perhimpunan atas dasar pengajian ilmu inilah satu-satunya jalan yang masih ada untuk menjadikan Gayong ini bersatu padu. Kerana dengan berhimpun di dalam majlis ilmu, kita bersama-sama menumpahkan peluh dan darah, bersepak terajang, bertikam senjata, dan mengenali hati budi antara satu sama lain. Selepas selesai "berkursus", ikatan persaudaraan semakin erat, hormat dan sayang semakin meninggi, dan saling mempercayai wujud antara saudara segayong...

Kerana itu, ambo secara peribadi berpendapat, selagi setiap Anak Gayong dapat berkumpul menimba ilmu dari Guru-Guru Tua tanpa mengira lambang pertubuhan, asalkan selagi murid Silat Seni Gayong, maka cita-cita untuk Gayong Bersatu itu tidak mustahil. Ambo sentiasa memegang prinsip itu. Ambo sentiasa memperjuangkan cita-cita itu. Ambo sentiasa impikan penyatuan itu di satu hari. Cuma Ambo tertanya-tanya, adakah saudara-saudari sekelian juga sanggup memangku visi dan misi ini bersama Ambo dan saudara seperjuangan ambo???

Ambo memanggil balik, menegur secara terbuka saudara-saudara yang semakin lama semakin jauh dari perjuangan asal penyatuan. Semakin lama semakin terang perjuangan saudara saudara dalam menaikkan diri sendiri dan persatuan sendiri. Memperkasakan persatuan dan gelanggang adalah perlu, jalan politik Gayong yang dipilih pun tidak mengapa berbeza asalkan bergerak aktif, tetapi janganlah hanya kerana berbeza pertubuhan, murid-murid yang ikhlas mahu menuntut ilmu dan berguru dipulau dari duduk bersama mereka menimba ilmu. Tak apalah. Program demo, takkanlah ambo hidung tak mancung, pipi tersorong-sorong. Doa ambo cuma ditambah rezeki, ditambah ilmu, dan ditambah silaturrahim...

Gayong Bercantum.... Bersatu Padu,

Mengingat Junjungan Empunya Seru,

Sama Sendiri Bantu membantu,

Selamat Sejahtera Hajat dituju...

"Dalang"nya Satu

Dalam cerita, watak berperangai macam2 sebagai penambah perisa. Cerita akan hambar bila tiada suspennya. Cuma kadang2, kita tidak sedar watak kita itu watak yang jahat, keji, kejam, dan pemfitnah. Juga mungkin kita tak sedar yg watak kita itu pengubat, penguat, dan tulang belakang cerita. Tiada kita, tiada ceritanya.

Jarang2, duduk jadi penonton baru tahu cerita sebenar. Baru menghayati pengajaran sebenar. Atas pentas kita berlakon, di bawah itu reliti. Kerana itu, IBADAT itu merehatkan kita. Rehat sejenak untuk melihat "cerita" kita. Watak kita.

Geleng kepala, apabila watak baru, yg jahat, dalam cerita kita yang tidak malu, tidak tahu, dan tidak mahu merubah wataknya pada lebih baik. Dia suka berperwatakan begitu. Talam dua muka, melaga-lagakan sesama saudara, menikam belakang dan kipas orang atas pijak sahabat itu kepandaiannya. Kerana "Pentas" itu yg dikejarnya. Mujur kita berehat sejenak, sedar juga yg pentas itu bukan rumah kita. Akan tutup sekejap lagi.

Syukur juga watak-watak begitu dihantar sebagai penghias cerita kita. Cerita makin bagus. Kita dapat mengukur diri. Kita dapat pohon pada "Dalang", jangan sekali kali diberi watak buruk itu....

Dalang itu sangat baik (Maha Baik) dzatNya. Maha Adil. Satu masa, watak baik menang, watak jahat kalah. Tapi Dalang selalu beri pilihan, untuk melihat Iman Yakin kita. Mana yg kita mahu pilih:

Watak jahat dibuka aibnya, dihina sehina-hinanya hingga tidak mampu bangun dan hancur.

Atau biarkan si luncai dengan labu-labunya, tetapi sebagai balas kita diberi ilmu, pemahaman, ketinggian, kenikmatan, dan kehormatan setinggi-tingginya.

Maka watak ini hanya mampu untuk pilih pilihan yang ke-2. Biar Dalang yg menghukum si watak itu di mahkamahnya kelak. Tapi minta izin Dalang, kalau maruah kita diuji lagi, tolong izinkan watak ini amal Berani kerana Benar.

Pak Ngah Izahar

Alhamdulillah, eventhough the time was short, we had finished our 2nd course of Keris at Bachok. I was informed by one of my Master, Cikgu Nasir about the course, where Pak Ngah Izahar was invited to supervise and to teach the way of traditional Keris techniques.

I was grateful to be invited as the participant and to learn in the different way under Pak Ngah Izahar. And I do hope to always have the chance of learning with the old master. Many of the Gayong Masters become old and cannot teach anymore. Everytime seeing an old master taught the young students, my heart will say for how long this will last? And what will happen then? Where am I going to learn the precious art?

Those questions haunt me everyday. And it is our duty to go and seek the knowledge. As long as I could manage my family, my work and my time, insyaAllah, I'll be at the Gelanggang to seek more from you oh Masters!!! ;)

This is one of the sad moment since I've been typing the entries in my blog. I still remember how it was hard for Pak Husin to speak to us. Most of the time, Cikgu (Abang) Rahim helped him to translate what he said to us...

It has been so many years I wanted to see Pak Husin Kaslan. But since I just come back to Malaysia at the end of last year, and quite busy with the life as a father and a lecturer, I didn't manage to come and pay him a visit. But last week, the feeling was so strong that I have to go to meet him... at least once. So when I went home at Pasir Puteh for my sister's wedding on thursday, I took that chance to make a passport for my little Aryan at Kota Bharu. We came back to Kuantan that night, and gathered at UMP to meet my Gayong students. So those who were ready with their passports came with me to our destination of Singapore, two cars for 7 persons. The route was not so easy for us. The fatigue, due to my long journey to Kelantan and come back for Singapore, and also the problem at the Singapore border and even getting saparated (without the possibility to contact each other in singapore) and getting lost. But the destiny was that we had the chance to arrive safely at Cikgu Rahim's house. Cikgu Rahim is the son of Pak Husin Kaslan.

It was a memorable moment to meet one of the legend of Silat Seni Gayong who was called as the Naga Bora. Pak Husin Kaslan forced himself to "welcome" us and it indeed a very spiritual element that makes me felt so peaceful and happy. We were welcomed by Cikgu Rahim's family and his students, and we spent the day by talking about Pak Husin, the late Dato', and even the art of Silat Seni Gayong in the point view of Gayong Pasak.

In the evening we visited a little bit the city with the guide of Dr. Shaiful (Cikgu Rahim's Student), and we went back to Johore before continuing our journey back to Kuantan. After coming back from Singapore, my little Aryan was crying and crying, and in some moment I thought there was "something" following us from any Segamat jungle or what. But after I receive the sad news about Pak Husin, I understand now that it was a sign. A sign of saparation with someone who I wanted to meet since very long time and finally had that precious time to meet him once. It was exactly 3 days after visiting Pak Husin.

I envy those who had the chance to be with him earlier and even to be trained under him. But this is the Qada' and Qadar. This is the destiny that we cannot change. Langkah Rezeki Pertemuan Maut.....

As a representative of A.F.S.S.G (Silat Seni Gayong France), and a representative of Gelanggang Naga Rantau of Universiti Malaysia Pahang, I wish you Cikgu Rahim and family, of my sincere condolence of Allahyarham Cikgu (Pak) Husin Kaslan. I hope that the lost, will only make our Gayong bond stronger, for a united Gayong brotherhood. Gayong Bergayut, Kata Bersahut.

Alhamdulillah, PSSGM Kuala Lumpur, under the Timbalan Khalifah Cindai & Sundang, Cikgu Sani Morni, had organized the 3rd seminar of Sundang Lipas. The 1st seminar was done at Sungai Pusu last year, the 2nd seminar was done at Batu Arang, and now the 3rd seminar was done at Sungai Chincin.

We were visited by two important Masters, the first was Cikgu Zainal Badak, and the second one was Cikgu Aziz Osman. We were trully honored to have been treated with good advices as the Anak Gayong by both of them.

The Sundang Lipas, as said by Cikgu Sani Morni, is the highest level of weapon in Silat Seni Gayong. He learned the Sundang Lipas directly under the late Mahaguru Dato' Meor Abdul Rahman, and he said, other than him, there are still several masters who had also learned with Mahaguru.

The Sundang Lipas training under Cikgu Sani Morni was perfected with the guidance during the "darurat", the Gayong commands, the perfection of fabricating the sword, and even the various technique of this heavy sword. The truth is that, this is the first time that we were allowed to snap the photos during the seminar. Last two seminars, no camera, no camcoder were allowed. Cikgu Sani said this is because the art of Sundang Lipas and Cindai are the secret of Silat Seni Gayong. Both of the arts, especially the Sundang Lipas, is kept since very long time as a secret as it is the "identity" of Gayong Warrior.

Cikgu Sani Morni showed us a good example of an "old" Master who is still teaching the young students. The 3rd training was not a normal training, since Cikgu Sani had chosen two Gurulatihs to be his representatives in Dalang Mandi Minyak, and other two Gurulatihs as his representatives in Sundang Lipas. It was a really sentimental moment, and I do feel sad when he said "If I pass away.... then those I have chosen will be those who you should consult". The name of 4 Gurulatihs, I will just keep it only for me and those who were present during the seminar. I beleive that Cikgu Sani had chosen the right persons. Alhamdulillahi Robbil A'lamin...

InsyaAllah, as usual, the bond made among the brothers and sisters during the training will strengthen the Gayong relationship. Gayong Bergayut, Kata Bersahut. God Bless. ;)

Majlis Pertabalan PSSGM KELANTAN

20.11.2011, PSSGM Kelantan telah selamat menganjurkan Majlis Penyampaian Sandang dan pertabalan. Tujuan utama majlis ini adalah untuk permasyuran ahli jawatan kuasa tertinggi kepimpinan PSSGM Kelantan selepas lebih dari dua tahun dalam keadaan tiada pentadbiran yang hakiki. Tahniah diucapkan kepada yang terutama Cikgu Haji Wan Abdullah Hamzah (Tok Ayah Lah), di atas perlantikan seagai Pengerusi Majlis Adat PSSGM, yang juga merupakan YDP PSSGM Kelantan yang baru menggantikan mantan YDP PSSGM dulu Tuan Haji Mansor Othman yang masih menasihati tetapi berehat di atas faktor kesihatan.

Tahniah juga kepada Cikgu Ibrahim Yasok yang dilantik sebagai Timbalan Imam Khalifah PSSGM Kelantan, dan juga sebagai Pengerusi Majlis Gurulatih PSSGM Kelantan. Alhamdulillah, Naga Rantau had safely touched down at the KLIA. Eventhough the journey is quite tiring, our souvenir at France will last forever. Before yesterday, we had organized our last seminar and also the "Remise des Ceintures" Ceremony (Penyampaian Bengkung). This program, is actually an annual program of me and my students of Gayong France. At the end of every year, we spend one to two weeks for seminars, classes, training, grading and Gayong ceremony. This is the first time I left and come back with UMP team members for this annual program. And I do hope, next year, other Gelanggang would be interested to join our program also, especially the international Gelanggang like Cikgu Sam's Gayong US, Cikgu Ariffin's Gayong UK, and other international Gelanggang, or even the Gelanggang from Malaysia.

Perhaps, the way I look at Silat Seni Gayong is different. Perhaps, my method of teaching is not the same as yours. Perhaps, our syllabus is quite more or less than your's in Malaysia or other international Gayong association. But that what makes me and Gayong France brothers and sisters are different. We want to be a real Anak Gayong, like the Melayu. But other than me, all of Gayong France family members are French people. This is Gayong of the French people. We hold the Liberty, Egality and Fraternity.

That's why, the exchange program like this must happen. It will bring the benefit for both parties. Those Malay Gurulatih came and learn the Gayong France culture, and the French Anak Gayong will learn the Malay culture. I am happy that my brother of Gayong UMP, Cikgu Zaki, my students from UMP Cikgu Ehsan and Cikgu Haziq, and my brothers of Gayong Pahang Cikgu Anwar and Cikgu Bajan came and learned a lot from Gayong France. Hopefully, the experiences gained here will make the team NAGA RANTAU different from others. NAGA RANTAU brings the ideas of the united Gayong as the vision of the late Mahaguru.

On a promis...!!!! Voila les Anak Gayong!

Le bain de fleur est une tradition dans Silat Seni Gayong, fait par chaque etudiant, pour initier cette art. C'est une tradition ou les eleves viennent, proposent quelque chose a un maitre pour qu'il les accept comme les eleves.

Parmis les chose que les etudiants proposent sont le citron vert, les fleurs, le Sintuk (plante speciale en malaisie), les aiguilles, et une somme d'argent.

On appelle ca comme le bain de fleur, car chaque etudiant va ramener le sac plastique contenue de l'eau avec les citrons verts, les fleurs et le sintuk chez eux, et prend le bain a partir de minuit. Le vrai est que, tous ca est pour se nettoyer, plutot symboliquement, pour etre propre comme un nouveau membre dan la famille de Gayong. A l'epoque, y avait pas de savon, donc on utilisait le citron vert pour nettoyer, les fleurs pour les parfumer, et le Sintuk pour fabriquer les mousse. Le tamarin (qui est acide), le sel, le Bertih (popcorn), les bananes et le jus de citron vert sont consomme apres l'offert....

Donc aujourdhui nous avons neuf nouveau Anak Gayong. J'espere vraiment qu'ils seront des Panglima et SriKandi de Gayong! ;) Quart entre eux ont passe leur grade de Ceinture Blanche et Ceinture Vert.

Today we had an intensive course for Gurulatih, since tomorrow morning we are going to have our Perlimau Tapak and Seni, and also the belt grading for few of the students.

We had also trained a lot the syllabus for the kids. Hope that after this, we will start to build up a section for kids, since it's a good plan for the continuation of our team member.

Bravo for a non-stop training tonight and hope that every perticipant will do their best for the belt grading. ;)

I had organized a seminar of Capoeira Senzala with Instructor Pixote from France. It was just that I hadn't enough time to update the news! We are planning to set up a Capoeira Senzala club in the Universiti Malaysia Pahang, and I am sure there will be many student who are interested to this Brazilian martial art. It will be the baby of Capoeira Senzala in Malaysia, and we are proud to say that Senzala school is one of the pioneer group of Capoeira in Brazil. To Instructor Pixote, many thanks for spending a time with us here. Send our best regards to Mestre Sorisso and the Senzala group of Montpellier. InsyaAllah, hope that the project will have a good start.
The first seminar was attended by most of my student in Silat Seni Gayong. Again, it is to let the students to see the martial art differently with the respect to the others. ;)

Tonight we went to the club of French Combat Stick (Canne a Combat), one of the old martial art of French people. This is the basic of French Sword (escrime) but using the stick instead of a real sword. The purpose for this program is not only to teach Silat Seni Gayong to the French, but also to learn their martial art as an cultural and martial exchange so every Gurulatih has the open eyes for the diversity of martial method. As we always say : The unity in diversity!

After two hours of learning the technique and tricks, we finish the sparring with the "Salut", and had a photo session! ;) The class was short for us to master this art, but the generosity and warm welcome from this French Master and his students will remain in our heart forever. Hopefully, again, that this activity will bring benefit to everyone. ;) Merci a tous!!!!!

Today we were invited by the Pencak Silat Club of Mouscron, Belgium, to do a demo and short seminar at their dojo. Gayong France has a close relation with the club since very long time. The Master of the club, Master Jacques, is one of the senior Pencak Silat Master in Belgium, since he was a student of Master Turpinj. Master Turpinj was an indonesian Pencak Silat Master who had created his own school in Europe, and considered the first who introduced the art to the European.

I saparated the lesson into several parts: Asas Elakan, Elak Pukul, Asas Serangan, Pecahan Elak Pukul, some Kunci Mati and finally for a special request, a little bit of Cindai presentation (Sarong and Bengkung) So our two students, Ehsan and Haziq had shown a really excellent demo performance, and also had interacted through all the class with every participant. I found that their English has improve too! (so strange to improve your english in french spoken country!). The other 3 Gurulatih, Cikgu Zaki, Cikgu Anuar and Cikgu Bajan also have been doing well in teaching, coaching and training the French and Belgian during the class. The Naga Rantau will be a one step further ahead!

Club de Pencak Silat a Mouscron est l'un de les anciens club de Pencak en Belgique. Le Maitre Jacques, etait un eleve de Maitre Turpinj, donc peut donner l'idee de quoi ca ressemble des esprits reste dans leur Dojo! On s'est roncontre pour la premiere fois dans 2005, et on continue a faire des echanges jusqu'a ce jour la. Le club a un tres bon esprit de fraternite et moi et les Malai on est toujours tres bien acceuilli chez eux! ;) Merci beaucoup Jacques, Eric et les anciens et les nouveaux de club de Moucron. L'entrainement de tout a l'heure la c'etait tres bien et en bonne ambiance! ;) En esperant de pouvoir se rencontrer encore dans la future! ;)

Kalau ikut hari, ni hari ke-5 musafir dan merantau kami di Perancis. Sudah 3 kali latihan. Alhamdulillah.... qada' dan qadar Allah swt itu indah dan cantik, bila difikir dengan hati yang tenang. Ambo nyaris2 smbung bljar ke ohio state university, columbus di U.S, tp takdir tetapkn ambo dtg ke france.

Ini bukan kali pertama datang mengajar anak-anak gayong berbangsa Perancis di bandar Lille. Sejak dari 2005, hampir setiap bulan, ambo amek train datang mengajar di sini. Tapi kedatangan kali ini agak berbeza perasaannya. Fikir punye fikir.... baru tahu sebab apa. Sebabnya ambo sudah setahun dok di Malaysia. Selama setahun juga ambo timba pengalaman baru dalam hidup. Berumahtangga, kerja, dapat anak, dan yang terutama (yang jauh sekali dapat dielakkan) ialah politik dalam pertubuhan....termasuklah politik Gayong.

Rupa2nya, selama hampir 8 tahun di bumi Perancis, ambo tidak begitu sedar betapa ambo sebenarnya dipermudahkan Allah swt dalam berkongsi ilmu, menimba ilmu, mengajar ilmu dan lain2 dalam mengenal seni mempertahankan diri.. tapi selepas setahun di Malaysia, dan datang kembali, baru ambo sedar betapa payah mengajar di luar negara, tidak sama payahnya di dalam negara. Orang Perancis sangat menghargai seni silat. Orang kita tak sedikit yang memperlekehkannya. Orang Perancis sangat terbuka dalam berdiskusi hatta dalam beladiri. Orang kita cuma pandai mengaku silat kita sahaja yg hebat tanpa mahu bertarung. Orang Perancis naik kerana kepandaian. Orang kita banyak yang naik kerana bodek, jatuh kerana fitnah.

Apa-apapun, setahun di Malaysia, banyak yg ambo belajar dalam Gayong. Kenal kebanyakan Guru Gayong. Kenal juga Cikgu2 muda Gayong. Ada yang baru kenal, tapi bagaikan saudara sehidup semati. Tapi ada juga yang manis di depan, busuk di belakang. Ada juga yg bertahun kenal, tetapi.... entah lah... malas nk komen lebih. Ambo syukur pada Nya atas segala tarbiyah dari Nya... ;)

Ape2 pon, syukur alhamdulillah melihat walaupun selepas setahun meninggalkan France, AFSSG mampu untuk berdikari di bawah pimpinan murid kanan ambo, Cikgu Benjamin PONS dan Gurulatih2 kanan. Seingat ambo, rupa2nya, Benjamin PONS ni di antara murid yg mula belajar dgn ambo dari kosong sampai laaa lo ni kuning 3. Semoga perhubungan ini kekal.. amin.

Ambo syukur juga, dan ingin ucapkan terima kasih pada guru-guru ambo yang tak pernah serik mendidik dan menasihati ambo. Kalau bukan kerana berkat ilmu Cikgu2 semua dgn izin Allah, tak mampu ambo nok capai ke tahap ni. Juga terima kasih pada sahabat2 saudara segayong yg sama2 susah senang bersama. Terima kasih juga pada universiti ambo (UMP) yg menghargai apa yg kumpulan kecil kami usahakan selama ini..... Harap ambo Gayong France akan terus berkembang selama-lamanya...Amin. ;)

1st Day Training

One of our purpose to be here is to train two UMP students, who have the yellowbelt, to have a chance to teach this art to the French people. It is important for every future Gurulatih to have at least on experience dealing with the international students.

The different point of view, the way of thought, and the pedagogy are the challenge that every Gurulatih must face. More over, those future Gurulatihs start to realize the importance of good communication, verbal and body languange and the motivation.

Hopefully, Universiti Malaysia Pahang will not only produce the good engineer, but also the high level and international martial art instructors for the society. Go! Go! Go!!! ;)

NAGA RANTAU IN FRANCE 2011

GJP (Gayong Jelajah Perancis) was our first project in 2005, bringing the Chief of PSSGM Kelantan Tuan Haji Mansor and 3 others Gurulatihs for a tour in France for the demonstration, cultural exchange and martial art seminar. Only after 6 years after the first one, we manage to organize the second GJP, but now it is under the co-operation between AFSSG (Association Francaise Silat Seni Gayong), Association Silat Seni Gayong Universiti Malaysia Pahang a.k.a "Naga Rantau" and PSSGM of state Pahang.

Our team consists of 6 people. 2 students and 4 Cikgus:

Cikgu Shaiful Hakim MOHAMED NOOR: 3rd Dan Blackbelt (PSSGM) : Team Leader, University Lecturer.

Cikgu Zaki AHMAD: 3rd Dan Blackbelt (AKMA), 3rd Dan Redbelt (PSSPGM): University Cultural Officer.

Cikgu Khairul Anwar AHMAD: 1st Dan Blackbelt (PSSGM): Government Medical Assistant.

Cikgu Khairul Afrizal MOHD ALI: 4th Dan Yellowbelt (PSSGM): Officer from Malaysia Ministryof Internal Affair.

Gurulatih Mohd Ihsan AB RAHIM: 1st Dan Yellowbelt (PSSGM): 4th Year UMP Engineering Student.

We are going to do the performance and seminars around Paris and Lille from 30th of October until 7th of November. Welcomed at the finishing line! Alhamdoulillah.... 3000km done!

Alhamdulillah, we have all arrived safely last night to our home after almost one month in Australia. Our team from the Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering, UMP, consists of 18 members, (staffs and students) went to Australia to participate into the World Solar Challenge 2011. Our team manager, Prof Dr. Zahari Taha was there with us in the beginning, but had to take the leave since he was selected to go to Mecca for his pilgrimage. I was the safety officer for the team, but was given the task to replace him as the team manager for the rest of the race.

The race started with the team registration, solarcar static scrutineering, solarcar dynamic scrutineering and the race itself from Darwin in the north to Adelaide in the south for 3000 km. We started the race on Sunday morning and arrived at Adelaide on Saturday noon. Every team celebrated their success of finishing the race by showing their solarcar at the Victoria Square and having fun playing the water in the fountain! Every team put their country flag at the fountain and swapping the t-shirt with the other team members.

During the race, we were accompanied by one observer each time. We had 5 observers through out all time. The dryness, the heat, the sunburn, and the coldness, and more obstacles we faced during the race (we were hold for 4 hours due to the bushfire and twister) just made our team become harder and close.

We came with a really modest solarcar, and must come again with a far better "KILAU 2". I spent much time to visit and share the info with the other team managers. Each of them have a solarcar that cost more than 100 000 USD. The electrical engine itself cost more than 30 000 USD. If UMP SOLARTEAM want to come again in the WSC 2013, then we should have more or less RM 1 million for the project.

I beleive in the solar energy as our future energy. I beleive that the money spent in this industry will bring lot of benefit and wake the people up the importance of this energy. This event, not only giving the award for the team who had finished the line in the first place, but also the various awards like Technical Award, Design Award, Safety Award, and the Best Newcomer Award.

My hope is that UMP will be dare enough to invest into this project as one of the effort for a better future. Our experience for almost one month there is so priceless and the support from the public and private sectors are needed. I do dream a new and energy efficient of KILAU 2....

Salam all to 2nd year Manufacturing engin. students. As we had discussed in the class last week, we will use the e-learning method since that your lecturer must have to take a really looooong journey to come to your class. ;) We are going to Australia for 3 weeks and to France for 2 weeks. Hope that everyone doesn't take this "LITTLE" effort for granted. I've planned that we are going to have a test after 5 weeks of e-learning.

Ok I have an announcement! This coming Sunday, the 2nd Octobre, we'll have a Capoeira class, directed under the Instructor Pixote, one of the famous capoeira instructor from Senzala Capoeira. He himself is my friend when I was in France.

Alhamdulillah, we had just finished our Intermediate Level of First Aid Course last Saturday. It is one of the requirement of the organizer (WSC) that every team has an safety officer and a first-aid officer, and all of the safety team must know the procedures of the first aid.

Many thanks to our instructor from Red Crescent of Headquarter, KL, for spending a whole day to teach train our team KILAU before going to Australia.

Not to forget thank to the Safety Team, Mr Kamarul, Mr Shahanzir, Mr Nasrul, Mr HAfiz, Mr Ifrad, Miss Afiqah and Miss Atiqah. And many thanks to the FKP and UMP that allow us to realize this program. ;)

One of the special art in Silat Seni Gayong is the Sundang Lipas. Many would wonder, how this viking-like sword would become one of the lesson in Gayong. It lies under the fact that the Bugis people, were the warrior-sailors. They were the master of the sea. They conquered the ocean with their huge and war-equipped ship. The Bugis people were always known for their braveness, fighting skill and navigation expertise. For this co-relation, some Gayong people even dare to beleive that Bugis people perhaps came from a clan of viking people who settled down in Celebes island and mixed with the Malay of the Sulu Sultanate. I am perhaps one of those who thinks like that. ;)

Dato' Meor is the great grand child of Bugis prince, the warrior himself who came to "Tanah Melayu" (Malay land) with his other 6 brothers to find a new settlement, after their country in Celebes were lost under the Dutch. But their intention was not only to flee, but they were searching the Malay to recruit them. Recruting the Malay people with the Bugis art of war to fight back the colonisation of British and the Dutch.

The British and Dutch, and even the Japanese, all had gone nowadays. But the spirit of our ancestors is still here.

Everyone of us has a role to be a part of the recruiting process. Whether we are the one who teach or the one who be taught, but the tradition of "recruiting" the warrior must continue! ;)

Dia cakap keluar kat radio liputan pra-expoconvo UMP akan diadakan di Teluk Cempedak, dengan ditekankan tentang persembahan "Parang Gila". hari ni lepas trening untuk persembahan esok, dok relek2 kt opis bukak ecomm UMP, terjumpa pula sekali lagi announcement pasal persembahan "Parang Gila"... sampaikan ada guru besar sekolah telefon En Zaki tanya pasal demo Parang Gila dia nak bawa murid2 dia satu bas....

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and hello to everyone.

Universiti Malaysia Pahang's solarcar team, KILAU of the Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering, led by our team manager Prof. Dr Zahari bin Taha, will participate into the World Solarcar Challenge at Australia from 16-23 Octobre 2011. This is the very first time for UMP to experience this world-class competition and we are all excited to give our best shot to be one of the good team competiting there.

As an appointed Safety Officer for the team, I am incharge the safety, security and the well being of every team member, and also the safety of other

competitors and environment. As one of the requirement, I decide to train my team in the "Safety & Security" on this coming Sunday (18 september 2011), and will be done at Blok W, Universiti Malaysia Pahang from 9am-5pm.

For those who are interested to join the workshop, please wear the appropriate clothes, preferably the T-shirt, with khakis or track suit or Silat/martial art trousers. please wear the sport shoes.

No fees is fixed, but some donation will be collected to support our team KILAU. Not the value of your money will be counted, but your sincerity to support our team and your little help are meaningful for us.

The workshop will be concentrated on the guidelines for the Safety and Security practitioners, and also for the public, and the martial art and self-defense techniques also will be discussed. The first part will be the bare-hand technique, and the second part will be the T-Baton (cota polis) and Stick.

Our first solarcar, made by the Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering of Universiti Malaysia Pahang will compete in the World Solarcar Challenge at Australia in Octobre. Our car will be sent at the end of this month, so we are going to have our final "retouche" before going abroad. We'll spend 3 days to test our car fiability to Mersing. This is one of the simulation of emergency plan for our team.

Our solarcar is named "KILAU", meaning the shining, to represent the solar energy and hopefully will be one of the 'shining' team in Australia. The name is also to remember the great warlord of the Royal Sultanate of Pahang, Mat Kilau. Hope the name will keep us a great spirit to strive for the best. Doakan kami ye! ;)

Seorang guru lama Gayong di Kelantan telah kembali ke Rahmatullah beberapa minit yang lalu. Allah... Innalillahi wainna ilaihi rojiu'n... Semoga roh allahyarham ditempatkan di kalangan orang-orang yang beriman...Amin.

Berasa sedih ambo setiap kali guru-guru tua meninggalkan kita. Kita juga bisa menyusul tanpa mengira usia. Tetapi adakah kita bersedia menemui kematian? Adakah hidup kita sebagaimana yang ditunjukkan oleh Baginda Rasulullah saw dan para sahabat r.hum ajma'in? Dalam segi ilmu persilatan, satu permata telah hilang lagi. BREAK THE BRICK!

Pemecahan, or informally we called as "mengasah tangan/kaki/siku/lutut" (sharpening the hands/legs/elbows/knees) is the extra training we familiarize every Gayong student at the end of class. The only disadvantage of this lesson is that we have to clean away the mess after the breaking lesson! lol It costs us also few MalaysianRinggits to buy those bricks!

Breaking is easy when done in the right technique. Breaking the brick is not a paranormal or strange thing to see. It is completely NORMAL and SAFE. It just requires some little technique to do so. It trains the student to be confident with himself, and he will start to understand his internal force (Tenaga Dalam). Everyone has the Tenaga Dalam. Everyone can enjoy themselves buying and breaking those bricks hehehhe. But the question is just that how to bring out the Tenaga Dalam. It is all included inside the Pernafasan. I was taught the Bunga Tanjung itself is one of the best Tenaga Dalam training from the Pernafasan (breathing) technique.

Hope this modest explaination will help you to seek the art of breathing.... and break the bricks!!!!

Tahun kedua di Colmar, kami berpeluang berkursus snowboard plak. So naik bas ke Samoens, di banjaran Alps. Dari Colmar masuk Swiss baru sampai Samoens. Main benda ni jauh lebih cool giler daripada main ski. kalau ikutkan lagi susah sebab snowboard ni mengiring. tapi once dah expert lagi senang rupa2nya. awal2 kami main dalam piste, lama2 main luar piste. walaupun agak bahaya tapi try jugak jalan luar. yang pasti, feel dia macam naik superbike 500cc buat corner baring pada halaju 160km/h. hehehehehehe. bagi yang suka freestyle, papan yg lebih pendek lebih sesuai. tapi bagi yg nak snowboarding ala-ala Iceman tu kena cari papan yang lebih panjang untuk kesetabilan.

Beza dengan ski tahun 2003, snowboard kami diuji di hari terakhir. ikut syllabus ESF (ecole du sku francais), ada 4 level.. level ke 4 tu bole apply jadi instructor lah. bagi budak2 yg baru belajar bole naik smpai level 3. haaaaa dalam ramai2 yg pegi batch kitaorang, ada 4 orang jer layak dapat level 3 (2 bintang) termasuk ambo laaah hahahaha... antara benda yg diuji lebih sket dari level sebelumnya ialah melompat pokok pine yg ditenggelami timbunan salji. ambo try dua kali. sekali try tergolek ke bawah smpai trcabut google dan seangkatan denganya. ;)

apo-apo pun, enjoy... balik umah muka gelap sebab "snow-burn". huuuhuhuhuhu.

Dok oversea korang wajib try ski. Budak2 france untung sebab 'induksi' dijalankan di tempat2 ski. first year dok france kami di sponsor untuk habiskan masa seminggu di La Bresse Hohneck, timur laut france. nak bayar sendiri mau habis korek tabung nk stay seminggu. bagi yang tak pernah main ski, jangan ingat ia sesenang yang dijangkakan!!! lol

tapi alhamdulillah selepas seminggu diajar dan dilatih pagi petang, bole enjoy main benda ni.... tapi satu nasihat dari pakar: pakai spek/google sebab pantulan cahaya dari salji dikatakan 2 kali lebih cerah dari direct sunlight. benda ni kena pada ambo sob sob sob. sampai kena operate sebelah mata! 8_(...

Jam pukul 1.15 tengahari. Ambo keluar dengan dua sahabat atas urusan fakulti ke bandar Kuantan. Tengah keliling-keliling cari kedai sticker kereta untuk projek solarcar, terpandang kepada penjual kedai nasi kukus yang sibuk membungkus makanan. Ambo ingat yang dok tunggu nasi tu india ke cina. Sekali mamat ni pandang2 belakang kot2 ada orang usya dia. Baru tau pure Melayu. Maka berlakulah konfrontasi dalam diri. Mahu bersangka baikkah, atau membiarkan saja?

ambo cari spot baek dlm keta, kuar kamera paparazzi ambo, zoom sket........snap!

Keluarga ambo biasa berniaga di bulan ramadhan di pasir puteh. nenek ambo 'mek nab gelang banyak' and pakcik ambo 'abe yi' meniaga nasi dan lauk pauk sepanjang tahun. bila bulan puasa meniaga kat bazaar. tapi tahun ni kami stop. nenek pon nak rehat2 buat ibadat. pakcik ambo cakap tak tahan buat dosa bersubahat dengan kaum melayu yang tidak puasa.

salah siapa??? jangan menuding jari saja. kita juga sebahagian yg mengambil bahagian secara tidak langsung. memandang tanpa menegur, adalah satu penyakit yg berbahaya dalam mesyarakat. kita juga yg memilih sistem ini. orang yg berkuasa juga bergantung pada kita. in adalah satu kesalahan syariat...... bagaimana dengan pelanggaran2 yg lain????

(Grade Instructor of Capoeira Senzala under Mestre Sorriso)

Pixote is one of my instructor in Capoeira Senzala when I was in France. He was the one who invited and bring me into the world of Capoeira until I was 'baptisized' by Mestre Sorriso in the Senzala Capoeira and named as Tranquinho. There are many Capoeira schools in Brazil and all over the world, and Senzala is one of the most reputable school. Senzala itself was a name of "the house of the slaves", where the african slaves were used to be placed by the Portugese autorities when they 'exported' them to work in Brazil.

The Capoeira is not only a dance. It is not only the acrobatic or breakdanse. It is a complete martial art with it's own culture. My experience in Seni Silat and Pencak Silat made me understand a lot about the Capoeira and it's similarity with the Silat Monyet (Monkey Style).

Perhaps most of Malaysian think Capoeira only on it's acrobatic. It could be seen when someone doing the 'solo' of Capoeira. But in the 'Roda' (the sparring) between two opponent, it's highly technical and needs a deep understanding in the self-defense. They used to place a 'rasoir' between their big toe and middle toe as a secret weapon. Beside from that, Capoeira cannot be saparated from the "Makulele", a combat form with the sticks or machetes. In every festival of Capoeira normally we had a chance to play this kind of form. It's really a lot of fun.

In many Capoeira groups, they make the Christianity as they faith and culture. But it exists indeed some group of Capoeira which makes Islam as their practices. The influence of the religion can be proven by the songs and the "ceremony" of accepting the students. But nowadays, Capoeira becomes more popular as a sport and martial art than a religious activities.

Ok, my friend, Pixote is coming to Malaysia to pay me a visit for two weeks. The main program is sightseeing the country. But at the same time, we are planning to do many things. Those who are interested to initiate in Capoeira, please don't hesitate to contact me. We are planning to organize a seminar for beginners, and also for those who has already learned Capoeira. Hope we'll come out with a good idea after Raya. ;)

Yang mana-mana Islam, yang mana-mana Berakal, yang mana-mana TIADA keuzuran, maka WAJIB keatasnya berpuasa di bulan Ramadhan.

Kalau degil taknak berpuasa tu, sama taraflah dengan yang di atas dalam gambar. Bulan-bulan puasa pon bantai minum 100plus. Kata Kera tu, "Aku haiwan, mana wajib puasa". Tapi ada jugak makhluk manusia ni yang nak jadi haiwan. Alasan macam-macam nak buka puasa. Tapi kalau setakat kerja kilang ker, kerja ofis ke, takyah lah mereka alasan. Kalo ko tak keja off pun ko bantai jugak makan.

Teringat ambo seorang Ustaz menceritakan diawal turunnya perintah Allah untuk berpuasa. Pada waktu itu Rasulullah saw dan para Sababat r.ahum berpuasa hampir 23 jam sehari kerana tiada penjelasan berkenaan perintah tersebut secara terperinci. Pada waktu itu, para sahabat hanya dibenarkan makan dan minum pada waktu maghrib sehingga isya' sahaja, dan selepas itu sudah dikira waktu berpuasa.

Maka ceritanya, ada seorang Sahabat r.a, yang bekerja di ladang kurma yang panas terik. Satu hari, setelah beliau bekerja seharian dan pulang ke rumahnya untuk menunggu waktu berbuka puasa, disuruhnya isteri menyediakan makanan. Sewaktu menunggu waktu berbuka, Sahabat ini telah tertidur kerana kepenatan. Apabila beliau telah tersedar, waktu untuk makan dan minum telah habis. Dilihatnya makanan dan minuman yang disediakan oleh isterinya, lalu berkata "Seandainya ini bukan perintah Allah, nescaya aku makan dan minum sepuasnya kerana aku sungguh lapar dan dahaga".

Tetapi Sahabat ini redha dan sabar dan meneruskan puasanya. Keesokan harinya, beliau terus bekerja seperti biasa. Tetapi di waktu tengahari, beliau telah pengsan kerana kepenatan. Sewaktu beliau diangkat ke rumah, Rasulullah saw dan para Sahabat telah datang menziarahinya dan bertanyakan kenapa jadi begitu. Diceritakan kejadian bagaimana beliau telah tertidur sehingga terlepas waktu berbuka. Baginda saw tidak dapat memberi jawapan apa-apa kerana perintah Allah swt hanya mewajibkan berpuasa.

Selepas beberapa peristiwa yang berlaku di kalangan para Sababat r.ahum , maka turunnya ayat yang menjelaskan bahawa dibenarkan makan dan minum sehingga jelas antara benang hitam dan putih (fajar)....

Itu Iman para Sahabat r.hum. Para Sahabat r.ahum bukan para Nabi atau Rasul. Mereka adalah manusia biasa, tetapi golongan yang bertuah kerana mendapat bimbingan terus daripada Rasulullah saw. Bagaimanakah Iman kita pada hari ini??? Bagaimanakah taraf kita seandainya dibandingkan dengan para Sahabat r.hum?

Di satu hari Baginda saw bersabda "Sungguh rindu aku pada saudara-saudara ku". Maka para Sahabat berkata "Bukankah kami ini Saudara-saudara mu ya Rasulullah?" Berkata Rasulullah saw, "Tidak, bahkan kamu ialah Sahabat-sahabat ku". "Siapakah saudara-saudara mu ya Rasulullah?" Bertanya para Sahabat r.hum. "Saudara-saudaraku ialah mereka yang datang selepas ku (selepas kewafatan ku), tidak pernah melihat wajahku, tetapi beriman dengan ku!"...

Semoga bulan penuh keberkatan ini kita kembali mengenal Allah swt dengan sebenar-benarnya..... Amin.

UNITY IN DIVERISTY : Asas Gerakan

Asas Gerakan (Basic of movement, la base de mouvement)is the basic moves that we learn in Silat Seni Gayong. The Asas Gerakan is the movements we train in the beginning to familiarize with the technique used during the combat.

I am not sure in the first era of Gayong in Singapore how many Asas Gerakan that the late Dato' had arranged, but based on the syllabus I learned (from Cikgu Azizan Ibrahim, who learned from Cikgu Amin Hamzah) and also (from Cikgu Rais Shaari who learned from Cikgu Rasol) and also (from Cikgu Wan Kancil who learned from Cikgu Mufti Ansaari), the "almost official" syllabus of Asas Gerakan comprise of 7 levels.

Asas Gerakan 1 (hitam-putih)

Asas Gerakan 2 (putih-hijau)

Asas Gerakan 3 (hijau-merah)

Asas Gerakan 4 (merah-merah tinggi)

Asas Gerakan 5 (merah tinggi-kuning)

I am sure that every Gurulatih and Negeri (states) has their own Asas Gerakan. In Kelantan for example, we use the syllabus that Cikgu Awang Daud and the late Cikgu Haji Harun taught in the 70's and 80's. From Cikgu Suhaili Che Soh who learned from Cikgu Ibrahim Yasok and Tuan Haji Mansor Othman, the syllabus of Asas Gerakan are more like this:

The diversity of Asas Gerakan, Asas Serangan and Asas Elakan in Silat Seni Gayong proves the richness and flexibility in Silat Seni Gayong. The late Dato' Meor didn't only left his wide knowledge in the martial art, but also had left a group of "super" disciples who had created Silat Seni Gayong that we could see until today. My knowledge is limited to what I had learned only. Others Gurulatihs out there surely have your own syllabus that you'd grown with. My wish is that we can meet, have a good discussion, and share the ideas and syllabus that will bring more benefit to our perguruan.

I had once a good discussion at Dublin (Ireland) in the 2007, when I presented the basic syllabus of PSSGM Kelantan, while Cikgu Hafiz presented the basic syllabus of PSSGM Perak, Cikgu Rais presented the basic syllabus of PSSGM Selangor and Cikgu Faiz presented the basic syllabus of PSSGWK. After a whole and complete disscussion, the knowledge gained, and the bond tied. The popular quotation (translation) of Dato' Meor "I didn't teach Gayong to only one student. So go and find Gayong from all of my students".

This is only the diversity of Asas Gerakan. How about other lessons???? ;)

The Additional Lesson of "The Cotati"

Last Thursday was the last training for students at Gelanggang Naga Rantau for this month since they are all now enjoying their Ramadhan holiday until Raya. Wow, the UMP is a true understanding university. I wish I had a generous university like this when I was still student!!! lol But to all students, Happy Ramadhan and safe journey to your home! ;)

In every class, I teaches the syllabus of Silat Seni Gayong, but in most of the time, I teaches the 'selingan' (additional) depending on my mood. So our last training before Ramadhan and Raya we played a little bit the Cota T, or known as Tonfa in Karate Okinawa style. The Cota T/ Kayu T is one of the additional lesson of Silat Seni Gayong. It is taught normally to the Gurulatih of certain level who had completed the Simbat Suk/Cota lesson.

The origins of this weapons is debated, some beleive that it came from China and Indonesia. The same form also exist in Thailand and other south east asia countries. The Okinawan folks also had made this tool as their weapon during the restriction by the invaders.

The CotaT is one of the efficient weapon, and used by most of the security officers. Strikes, counter-attacks, blocking and locking are the moves that we apply in using this weapon. That was only an introduction of Cota-T. After Raya insyaAllah we will have more intensive class, especially for the Gayongclub for UMPStaff .

Tempur Bebas, or "sparring", is one of a requirement during a grading of Silat Seni Gayong. During a White Belt grading normally one Pesilat must fight against 2 oppenents. In Green belt, one versus 3 opponents, in Reb belt one versus 4 opponents and in Yellow belt, one versus 4 with every each of them holding different basic weapons of Gayong like Knife, Stick, Machete, Keris and Spear. For the grading of Black Belt, one Pesilat must face 5 black belts opponents, with different and various type of weapons like the chain, sword, javelin, axe, kerambit etc. The Tempur Bebas is NOT a Pentas. Pentas is a choreography, a planned fight. Tempur Bebas is a free-fight.

Eventhough it is only a Tempur Bebas grading with a "referee", but the fight during the grading was intense. I did receive a nice knife strike directly on my left forehead during my Black Belt grading in 2008, and I realized it only after finishing the grading one hour later, and after putting out my Tanjak with blood. Funnily, after the grading (grading was done in the morning), my family and I went to my fiancee's family's house for the "engagement" ceremony. Everyone was laughing at my bruise at my forehead while wearing the "traditional engagement suits". My Ma only said "Budok buas baso dio doh!" (a hyperactive boy deserves that!)

I have included the free-sparring training inside the syllabus of Silat Seni Gayong everywhere I teach. Differently with Silat Olahraga, there are less rules in Tempur Bebas of Silat Seni Gayong.As far as I was told, we are not allowed to intentionally attack the eyes and the private part. It is a physical and mental training, as we train the strength and the endurance. The tactics also is important, but the mind is far more important. When I had a chat with the old masters, I am always proud to hear their achievement in Gayong. Especially their hard training in the time of Dato' made them strong and fit even until they are old.

For this reason I try my best to revive the Tempur Bebas during our training at UMP. At Kelantan, I had seen one place that really makes the Tempur Bebas as their weekly (or even daily) training. It was at Kg Wakaf Zin, the Gelanggang of Cikgu Nasir. During the sparring, there were no distinction between Cikgu, Gurulatih, Jurulatih or new students. In Tempur Bebas, no more "how many Dans on your belt". I like the Cikgu's quotation : "Jangan kejarkan Dan, tapi kita 'badi Dan' (mendahului)".

I am suggesting that every each Gurulatih do the Tempur Bebas in their Gelanggang. And the lesson won't be in maximum if the Gurulatih himself come to class, tell to all of his students to do the Sparring, but himself sitting in the chair, and just observing his students without doing anything. Gurulatih must be the first who is fit to do the sparring. But of course, those who are still in 30's and below can do this regularly. But i've seen certain Gayong Masters who are in 40's and 50's, still can free-fight and unbeatable by the young fighters. I am personally have a huge respect to those Masters who still keep in form and ready in any moments. HORMAAAAAT!!!!! :)

Alhamdulillah, last night was our first training of Tempur Bebas. But since we are inside the university, the safety rules must be respected. So body protectors, hand and leg guards, and head protectors were used. InsyaAllah , ONCE per week, we'll have Tempur Bebas class. Many thanks to my brother Cikgu Zaki Ahmad, who assist me always for the development of Silat Seni Gayong at UMP and for his wide commitments to provide a complete training equipments and tools for NAGA RANTAU. The steps movements in the Serangan Maut

When I was really young, I had a chance to learn Silat kampung at my village. The first thing we learned was the Langkah Sembah (The step of respecting the audience). The second thing was the most basic step in Silat, Langkah Tiga (The triangle step) and Langkah Empat (The square step). It is after years of training that I was taught the Langkah Lima (The 5th Step).

But contrary in Silat Seni Gayong, we start with Tumbuk Pintal Tali, Pancung Dayung, Tumbuk Bertapak, Tendang Sula, Tendang Tolak Lintang and Tendang Tebar Jala. We continue with the first 10 steps of tiger cub and then Asas Elakan (Elak Kosong). So where is that term of "Tapak Gayong"??? If it is a "Tapak", then why don't we learn as in the Kampung silat, commencing with the Tapak Tiga and Tapak Empat?

The step movements in Pukulan Maut

This is because, the learning of Tapak in Silat Seni Gayong is included in the actions of doing those techniques. But we were not told directly by the Master "this is Tapak 3, this is Tapak 4", but rather let we try and error until we reach the perfection.

The Step movement in Kunci Mati

Training and playing Silat is beautiful and efficient when we do it in Tapak. We can fight or playing the "Pentas" without Tapak but the results is clearly different. The movements using a systematic Tapak is more stable, sturdy, difficult to fall, and yet easy to react into any fast moves.

In Gayong, at the beginning after the basic Gerakan and Elakan, we are taught the Pukulan Maut (Deadly Strike) and Serangan Maut (Deadly Attack : Kombat). As we can see from the movement chart I made above, we can see the combination of both Tapak Tiga and Tapak Empat. And in other technique, Tapak 5 is used. So it is important to explain to the students about the form of steps to be followed. If the steps is false, and we start to "adapt" with that error, it will be super hard to correct it in the future. So it's better to spend more time on the steps (Tapak), without rushing to finish the technique itself. Once the Tapak is good, then the rest will come. Once the foundation is stable, then the wall, the roof, and everything will be perfect. Hope that this sharing will improve our pedagogy quality in transferring the art and the science to our students. InsyaAllah ;)

Kursus Pegawai Teknikal Kebangsaan Wasit dan Juri

PSSGM 14-17 Julai 2011

Assalamualaikum wbt,

alhamdulillah. syukur ambo baru abes kursus OSH di NIOSH Bangi, pastu sambung plak kursus pegawai teknikal wasit dan juri di Sungai Congkak. Alhamdulillah, berpeluang juga menimba ilmu dari Cikgu Rasul dan Cikgu Faid, juga Cikgu Zakri dan Cikgu Yek. Tak lupa juga pada Pak Din sebagai urussetia. Pendapat ambo, kursus Wasit dan Juri ni bukan sahaja perlu bagi mereka yang berminat untuk berkhidmat menjadi Wasit dan Juri dalam pertandingan, tetapi juga bagi Gurulatih2 yang menjadi "Coach" bagi anak2 didik mereka. Kalau tak tahu undang2 pertandingan, macam mana nak dapat point, macam mana jadi kurang point, susah jugak nak melatih betul2 punye. So kursus ni juga ambo berpeluang meng"comel"kan lagi jurus tunggal dan jurus wajib. Alhamdulillah abes kursus tiga hari, jurus2 tunggal 100 pergerakan dan jurus wajib 99 pergerakan dah dalam ingatan, buat bekalan untuk mengajar secara confident atlit2 seni....

terima kasih buat sahabat2 peserta seramai 21 orang yang cool dan sangat terbuka. hanya sewaktu kursus menimba ilmu semacam ini baru dapat mengeratkan hubungan silaturrahim kita. insyaAllah semoga ilmu yg ditimba sepanjang kelas teori dan praktikal akan sentiasa menjadi pegangan sepanjang menjadi wasit dan juri yang berkaliber dan professional di masa hadapan.

Serius tetap serius. lawak tetap lawak. bermacam karenah dan situasi terjadi sepanjang praktikal wasit dan juri. tetapi ingatkah apa yang dilakonkan boleh terjadi dalam situasi sebenar. berkat asuhan, didikan, "buah betik buah mempelam" dari Guru2 PSSGM yang merupakan Wasit dan Juri bertaraf Kelas 1, Kelas 2 dan Kelas 3 Antarabangsa dari PERSILAT, peserta kursus melangkah keluar dari Rimba Ria Sg. Congkak dengan keyakinan dan mulut yang tak henti2 menjerit "Ti"!!!! Tak lupa juga segala aspek kehidupan sudah dihiasi dengan aba-aba yang melampaui batas. hehehehe.

Akhir kata, ambo ucapkan "Selamat Dipanggil Untuk Berkhidmat" untuk para sahabat dan diri ambo sendiri. ambil ilmu ini sebagai amanah dan ibadah. bantulah agar keadilan dicapai dalam pertandingan. "MULAI!!!!!!!!"

Pisau: Mari Mengkaji....

Seni Pisau adalah satu pelajaran Silat Seni Gayong yang termasuk dalam Seni Keris. Walaupun dari segi permainannya ada perbezaan dengan keris, tetapi sifat umum nya adalah hampir sama, iaitu senjata pendek dan tajam. Apabila bercakap tentang pelajaran ini, rata2 Gurulatih bercakap tentang Buah Pisau dan Pentas Pisau. Rata2 bercakap berkenaan Silibus. Rata2 mencari Silibus.

Silibus perlu dicari. Kerana itu adalah "modal" mengajar bagi setiap Gurulatih. Silibus mungkin berlainan bagi setiap negeri atau Guru, tetapi kalau ia genuine (iaitu tidak baru dicipta sebulan dua tetapi sudah ada di zaman arwah Dato', Pak Andak, Arwah Cikgu Mat Lazim, arwah Cikgu Razali, arwah Cikgu Siti dan lain-lain) maka mungkin tak jauh perbezaannya. Tetapi seperti pelajaran2 lain dalam silibus SSG, ia masih perlu dilatih untuk dimahirkan. Gurulatih adalah seorang yang berpengetahuan, mahir dalam melakukan teknik, dan bagus dalam pedagogi nya (cara penyampaian ilmu). Tanpa latihan yang cukup, silibus hanya menjadi satu pelajaran yang hanya dihafal dan tidak boleh digunakan sama sekali dalam pertempuran sebenar. Oleh itu adalah menjadi satu kemestian bagi setiap Gurulatih untuk melatih diri sendiri lebih banyak dari melatih muridnya.

Ambo pernah mendengar kisah seorang Master martial art (luar negara) yang tewas kepada seorang remaja gettho yang mahir bermain pisau kupu-kupu (pisau filipina). Ini berlaku kerana pelajaran yang diajar di dalam gelanggang hanya teori semata-mata dan tidak menyeluruh. Ambo juga pernah mendengar kisah seorang pemegang tali pinggang merah SSG yang menumpaskan dua orang lelaki berbadan besar yang bersenjatakan pisau, walaupun dari segi umurnya masih setahun jagung.

Dalam silibus, setiap Gurulatih MESTI faham dan tahu yang mana asas (ibu) dan yang mana applikasi (anak). Petua2 perlu diamalkan. "Bermain" pisau juga tidak lari dari kecederaan, kerana situasi sebenar Reflek perlu dilatih, genggaman perlu dimahirkan dan "MENGENAL" (membaca gerak) perlu diketahui.... Pendek kata, segala ilmu pertempuran (sparring) perlu setiap dari kita mahirkan.

Ambo bukan bermaksud untuk mengatakan ambo pandai ke apa, tetapi sekadar berkongsi pandangan dan cerita. Sebagai Gurulatih, adalah perlu mengkaji satu persatu teknik dalam silibus yang kita ada agar ia sesuai digunakan dalam keadaan sebenar. Kadang2, bukan maksud Guru2 tua yang menyusun silibus itu untuk menipu kita, tetapi kerana takut "Seni","Ilmu","Petua" itu jatuh ke tangan yang tidak baik. Kerana itu bagi yang mengkaji, akan sedar tentang 'efficiency' satu2 kaedah. Bergantung kepada kita untuk mencari dengan berguru dengan orang2 lama, dan dengan 'bermain' dengan anak2 buah di Gelanggang....

My last sejour at Cameron Highland was a wonderful one. It was an internal training provided by the UMP for it staffs, to give a chance for the staffs to learn from the professional about the photography. Our teacher was "imported" from Canon Marketing, Mr. Zalani Md Atan, or comfortably called as Mr. Zack.

Surprisingly, after introducing ourselves, he told me that he had learned Silat Seni Gayong in the year 1982 to 1986 at the Malaysia Royal Airforce camp of Labuan. His teacher was Cikgu Mat TUDM, and Mr. Zack stopped the activities after getting his Red Belt. He works now at Canon, and professionally involves in the photography....

Perhimpunan Gurulatih (dan Jurulatih) Peringkat Negeri Pahang di UMP

Alhamdulillah. The gathering dan Gurulatih seminar of PSSGM Pahang had successfully been attended the Gayong team from all over the state of Pahang. We received the representatives from Kuantan, Pekan, Chini, Jengka, and even the senior Gurulatih from Bentong and Bera. As the YDP of Pahang had stated, this was the first gathering of PSSGM Pahang since many years, especially after the deceased of certain senior Gurulatihs past 7-8 years.

Our main objective to gether the young Gurulatihs was achieved, eventhough some of them didn't manage to come due to professional and personal problem. But at least this event will be an event that we will keep as a ragular program for a better development of Silat Seni Gayong in Pahang.

As for the standardizing of the syllabus, we had made it for the first session. From the beginning we aware about the limited time, with a large and wide syllabus. We know that the complete syllabus of Silat Seni Gayong will be never be discussed in 3 days. So for our first gathering, we managed to "refresh" the syllabus from Awan Putih to Pelangi Merah chula 1. InsyaAllah we will organize the "Penyelarasan silibus" form time to time to finally come out with an official syllabus for the state of Pahang.

I would like to thank to YDP PSSGM Pahang Cikgu Pendekar Rahim, the UMP Gayong commitee of Naga Rantau, Cikgu Zaki, Cikgu Farizal, and all of the guest who had attended our event. InsyaAllah hope that this will be our first program and won't be the last.

Ambo tak dapat nak cerita pasal gayong dalam satu entry mcm ni. pandai2 laa godek2 blog ambo ni hehehehe. takde masa sangat, bole tengok 3 video di bawah ni.. mungkin dapat memberi sedikit sebanyak idea apa itu Silat Seni Gayong dan pada bekas2 anak gayong, diharap dapat menyuntik kembali semangat kependekaran dalam diri untuk kembali turun ke gelanggang!!!! GOLOK KEMBAR ; Double Golok

This is an old video that we made during one seminar at Lille. The Golok Kembar (twin golok) came from the Parang Dua movement, as I was told by my Master. The Gerakan was organized to form a 49 steps which to familiarize the students with the use of the Golok, a short machete. Golok is a daily tool and popular weapon among the Nusantara and there are so many variation of the forms. The steps shown here were only the first and second series. Many thanks to Cikgu Benjamin for his effort of documenting the Gerakan Golok and all of the technique of Silat Seni Gayong France for a references for the future generation. May the habits of documenting the lesson will be our's....

InsyaAllah this coming Saturday and Sunday (Sabtu 25 dan Ahad 26), PSSGM PAHANG will organize the Majlis Perhimpunan Gurulatih (Gurulatih Gathering Ceremony), at the Universiti Malaysia Pahang. The purpose of this ceremony is first of all to gather all of the Gurulatih of Silat Seni Gayong throughout the state of Pahang, to discuss and to plan the progress of PSSGM Pahang and last but not least to standardize and to formalize the official syllabus of PSSGM Pahang.

Saya sebagai wakil pihak penganjur, mengalu-alukan kedatangan Cikgu-Cikgu semua, yang terutama Jurulatih-jurulatih, Gurulatih-gurulatih, guru-guru penasihat persatuan gayong di sekolah-sekolah, kolej-kolej IPTA/IPTS dan Gelanggang-gelanggang awam di serata negeri Pahang Darul Makmur. Kedatangan para Cikgu dari negeri-negeri lain juga dialu-alukan.

Berikut adalah tentatif program insyaAllah:

KISAH LAKNAT

Korang nak baca pun baca. Taknak baca sudah. Tapi ambo kena luahkan juga isi hati ambo ni...

Dua hari lepas ambo ada di pasir puteh. Ambo balik berjumpa keluarga untuk weekend je, sebab dah lama sangat tak balik kampung. Tapi balik ambo bukan tak ada kerja. Banyak juga kerja dan urusan pulang ke kampung. Tapi kali ini bukan sebarang kerja ambo nak buat. Ada kes yang ambo kena selesaikan.

Ambo terima sandang Panglima Pelangi Hitam, beratnya bukan kepalang. Ambo terima dengan berkat syafaat Baginda Rasulullah s.a.w, itu ucapan kabulnya. Kalau masalah orang awam, biar polis dan mahkamah yang selesaikan. Kalau masalah dalaman Gayong??? Siapa yang perlu selesaikan? Siapa lagi kalau bukan orang Gayong sendiri.

Ambo sebenarnya sudah tak tahan dengan pe'el perangai sesetengah jurulatih Gayong di daerah-daerah kecil. Bukan kerana gelanggang itu kekampungan. Tetapi lebih kerana sikap perangai jurulatih yang merasakan merekalah "guru" gayong paling tinggi dalam daerah itu.

Berbalik pada kes kita. Kisah dua orang anak buah ambo, bersekolah di satu sekolah di pasir puteh. Kedua-dua ni, pergi sambung belajar silat dengan sahabat ambo di Machang atas beberapa sebab. So apabila PSSGM minta wakil dari Kelantan, dua orang ni join laah group pasir puteh yg lain ke kompleks sukan Kg Pandan untuk pertandingan peringkat kebangsaan.

Nak dijadikan cerita, sejak dari awal sahabat ambo dah bagi amaran pada dua orang ni, berhati-hati ke sana sebab mereka berdua "menumpang" jurulatih pengiring yang otak nya dah tak betul. Ambo malas komen pasal sifat peribadi jurulatih ni sebab blog ambo bukan tempat nak mengutuk orang. Cukup ambo cakap, baru sangat aktif balik dalam gayong. Berhenti dulu pun dengan pakai merah.

Ok, so apa kes nya? Budak dua orang ni duduk dalam bilik yg mengandungi 4 orang. Kita namakan 2 budak ni sebagai S dan D. Yang berkongsi bilik dengan dieorang H dan A. Dalam pukul 4 ptg gitu-gitu S dan D ni tidur petang. Yang ada dlm bilik selain dua ni budak A yang dok baring-baring tapi tak tidur. So pukul 5.30 petang, si D tersedar. Dia tengok S tengah tidur lagi. A pula dok baring-baring main telefon lagi. Si D terkejut sebab telefon dia yang letak di sebelah bantal hilang. Tapi dompetnya masih ada di situ. Dalam dompet ada duit beberapa ratus RM. Bawah dompet tu siap ade RM10 lagi. Tapi dompet dan duit tak terusik. Dia tanya si A, ada sesiapa masuk dalam bilik ke tidak. Si A cakap tadi masa si D tidur, ada dua orang masuk. Yang pertama si F. Yang kedua si M. D terus kejutkan S. S bangun, baru perasan, hp dia pun hilang. Letak atas meja, sebelah komputer si F...

Jadi kedua-dua ni pon pegi laaa tanya si F dan si M ni, tanya ada ternampak telefon ke tidak. Kedua-dua ni kata tak nampak apa-apa. F kata dia masuk nak amik laptop dia je. M pula kata dalam pkul 5 dia masuk, tengok hp ada situ lagi. Dia mengaku pegang hp D, dan main-main sebelum letak balik dan keluar. Itu cerita suspek F dan M.

Lalu kedua-dua report pada jurulatih. Yang pertama senyap beberapa ketika tak bagi respon, dan bersikap acuh tak acuh. Lepas tu si jurulatih cakap... "Ni mesti geng2 Johor yang curi ni". (si jurulatih ni dari awal cakap kat budak2 dia xpuas ati dengan jurulatih johor. siap kata kalo ada can nak "gocoh" jer) . Siap kata kat budak2 dia nak pecahkan pintu geng johor lagi nak buat spotcek. Tapi tak buat poonn......

Yang kedua berubah muka, pastu kata nak pergi spotcek. Dia naik, tak sampai beberapa minit turun balik kata dah spotcek. Spotcek apa, siapa, di mana, dan cara mana dia buat takde sapa yang tahu. Tapi melihatkan masa yang dia pegi spotcek tu, rasa2 macam masa masuk tandas, buka zip, kencing, basuh, lap-lap tangan, dan keluar....... dia pakai ilmu spotcek bengkung kuning kooott......hehehehe

Yang budak F tu, bila ditanya ada nampak apa2, berubah muka, nampak takut. Tapi tak ngaku. Yang M pon menjawab dengan menggelabah. Bag si M ni ade sekali dalam bilik budak berdua mangsa tu. Si M ni terus amek bag dia cepat2 bawa lari. Tak sempat si S dan si D ni nak cek. Dua orang ni nak kejar dan cek, tapi terasa kedua jurulatih buat-buat "Bekeng". Jadi nak taknak terpaksalah dua-dua ni terima hakikat HP kena amek dgn member sendiri....

Jadi ambo balik hari tu, ambo pergi balai polis dengan si S dan D. Minta nasihat dan pandangan. Saksi ada. Apa susah. Tapi ambo pikir kalo buat repot, kesian anak bini jurulatih tu pulak. Ambo pon telefon dia. Dia kata tak ada kat rumah, nanti dia balik. So janji pukul 2 ptg. Sementara tunggu si jurulatih ni, ambo bawak si S dan D ke rumah jurulatih sorang lagi. Tanya apa yang berlaku sebenarnya. Budak M, suspek tu, adik jurulatih ni. Tengah dok bincang2, si jurulatih yang janji nak jumpa ambo pkul 2 tu tepon jurulatih yang dok depan ambo ni. Dia tak tau ambo ade situ. Nampak macam menggelabah semacam. Bunyi macam nak lari taknak jumpa ambo. Dasar pondan takde telur. Siap hantar sms kt member dia tu tanya apa yang ambo tanya.

Ambo waktu tu dah mula syak dah. Bukan budak M dan F tu yg terlibat. Ambo syak si jurulatih berdua ni dia punya mastermind. Paksa budak dua ekor tu mencuri. Sebab mustahil jin yang ambil. Mustahil Bangla pecah masuk sebab saksi kata hanya 2 orang yang masuk dan pegang Hp tu.

Dalam pkul 2 lebih kami sampai rumah jurulatih sorang lagi. Ambooi... siap gantung bengkung hitam chula 6 kat dinding rumah dia. Bila masa pulak dia naik hitam. Chula 6 pulak tu? 12 tahun lepas, merah baru. Lepas merah setahun sekali datang tunjuk muka time kursus. Mengajar benda lain tak tahu, dok pakai modal "bunga tanjung malam pertama" je buat lawak dalam gelanggang. Hehhehehehe... skang dah hitam 6?!!!!! hehehe harrruuuuummm nama pasir puteh. Ada mahaguru chula 6 di kg jerat semata pasir puteh. Jadi buat kali kedua nya Gayong Kelantan ada chula 6 automatik, selepas Gua Musang. keh keh keh. apa-apa laahhh brader. Buat ape yg demo suko.

Awal-awal perbincangan dan nampak kedua jurulatih dok bekap si M. si F takde kat pasir puteh. (jangan risau, ambo datang cari dia dalam masa terdekat) si M nampak mcm nak mengaku, tapi jurulatih bangang tu naik-naikkan suara. Pastu siap tepuk meja menjerit kat budak D sebab kes pecah pintu geng johor. Nasib baik ambo ade, bayang lah keadaan dua budak tu sepanjang dengan jurulatih setan ni. Nak jadi cerita, budak yang kena tuduh disuruh bersumpah Al-Quran oleh abang dia sendiri. Kasihan ambo lihat. Terketar-ketar dia pegang Al-Quran. Budak baik, tapi kongo, mcm kena paksa. Banyak kali dia dia terdiam dalam bersumpah, terutama bila sebut "laknat turun pada aku, keluarga aku, akademik aku....". Muka pucat, mata tunduk tengok ke lantai. Ambo sekali tengok dah tahu budak M ni menipu. Kasihan. Tapi sebab takut kena pulau atau marah oleh abang dia yang juga jurulatih, dan jurulaih setan yang satu lagi, maka dia teruskan juga sumpah dia. Ambo doakan Allah tunjuk yang mana Haq dan yang mana Batil.

Habis je M ni bersumpah, budak S dan D diminta bersumpah berkata benar dengan maklumat yang mereka bagi. Tiada tanda penipuan. Tenang, terang dan lancar. Mana tidaknya, kalau tidak bersalah, apa yang ditakutkan. Berani kerana benar, takut kerana salah.

Habis je sesi sumpah laknat, ambo dan budak2 tidak membuang masa duduk di situ. Ambo tidak menulis meminta saudara-saudari menghukum siapa betul dan siapa salah. Tapi ambo menulis ini ditujukan kepada kedua jurulatih tu yang tengah membaca entry ambo ni. Ingat sikit, demo buat zalim ko anak-anak buoh demo. Mungkin Allah tak balas ko demo. Tapi Allah turunkan pembalasan pado anok-anok demo, bini demo, mak ayah demo atau ahli keluargo yang lain. Sumpah dan Al-Quran pun demo buat main-main. Demo paksa budok bersumpah, jangan ingat laknat turun pado budak yang bersumpah sahajo. Kalu dio bersumpah tanpa kerelaan dio, maka turun laknat pada dia dan jugo pada yang memaksa. Ibarat kata para hukama', kalau terjadi apa-apa yang buruk, jangan salahkan orang lain melainkan diri sendiri....

satu lagi. Gayong ini ado daulat dio. jgn ingat ambo tok pesan.....

The Movements of the Cub

The first 10 movements of Gayong Kelantan
(used in the Gayong France syllabus)

One of the first training of Silat Seni Gayong is Gerakan Anak Harimau, which means the movements of the cub, or in french we called as "Les Mouvements des bebe tigre". Officially, it consists of 49 steps or movements, and is a part of the national syllabus of PSSGM and applied also internationally. As far as I could remember, no one would complain with the first 30 movements of this Gerakan. But from 31 and above, as many Gurulatihs would notice, there are many versions of the Gerakan. The Selangor and Perak as far as I'd seen is the same. But in Pusaka Gayung is slightly different, and that happens also to Kelantan. Since I came from Kelantan, I knew only 40 movements of Anak Harimau. Other than Gerakan Anak Harimau, some of us had a chance to learn certain rare Gerakan of the animals in Gayong.

Let me cite just few: Gerakan Rajawali (Movements of Phoenix), Gerakan Anak Helang (Movements of Eaglet), Gerakan Kipas Nandung (Movements of the fan), and other simple moves like Buah Labah-Labah (spiders techniques), Jurus Naga Bora (Dragons steps), Kuncian Harimau Kumbang (Black Panther locks), Tari Bangau (dance of the crane) and so on. Some should had hear the Gerakan Yoi, Serangan Bapak Harimau (Tiger attacks) and Serangan Harimau Betina (Tigress attacks. Those movements, some were copied from the animals movements and then have been named. Some were created during the battle or training, but accidently has a similarities with certain animal habits or movements. So to ease the learning, the Masters named it with the name of animals that the movements relate to.

So the 49 movements of Anak Harimau is a good exercice. 1-10 is the BASIC movement of the first level of Silat Seni Gayong. Punch, Blocking, front kick, side kick, rotation kick, and trench. The 11-20 is more on few movements in one step. 21-30 is the Tiger movements with more Claws and hand strikes techniques. 31-40 is the Phoenix movements. (Actually, the steps were derived from the 40 movements of Phoenix: Gerakan 40 Rajawali). 41-49 is more on the acrobatic skills of the practitioner.

The Gerakan Anak Harimau is not only to train the automatism and reflects, but it's also to build up the muscles, the distances awareness, and the stamina. Only after repeating the Gerakan for many times that one student could move on to the more complexe training like Kuncian or Kombat.

Assalamualaikum and Hi evryone! I got get really busy recently. Lot of research works, the faculty task, the new born, the car and even the container which arrived last week! While checking into my computer, I found a clip which I didn't put it online. If I am not mistaken, it was made about 5 days before my wedding ceremony. Seems I have to cut my hair for the wedding, I made this video to have a souvenir of my long-curly hair!!!! lol Don't expect anything, but just watch it if you have a free time to waste! hehehehehehe
