SENI KHAT SEMINAR (PHOTOS)

The "Khat" means the art of the Arabic calligraphy. There are several famous known calligraphy in the Moslem world, but this workshop we picked one method named as "Riq'ah". The most common Khat that we can see at the mosque around Malaysia is the Calligraphy of Thuluth. Thuluth was actually named from the 1/3 of the 8 continuous horse hairs as the size of the Khat pen. Thuluth is known as the Sultan of the Khat. Other than that there are also the Khat Nasakh, Khat Dewani, Khat Dewani Jali, Khat Khufi and Khat Farisi.

Since that more Malaysian are not comfortable with "Jawi" anymore, this art of calligraphy could be lost in the community. Luckily there are still few Masters called as "Al-Khattat" in our country that are willing to share their knowledge in this art. One of the young Master Ustaz Rumaja Sarmin had been invited to share his knowledge with us in KK5.

Thank you ustaz and hope to meet again. In a competition perhaps! hehehhehe ;)

Ustaz Rumaja is a teacher at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Segamat. Please feel free to visit his blogspot:

LATIHAN RENANG KK5

Among the activities that was mentioned directly in the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was about the art of swimming. The Malay people especially was known in the previous time the warrior at water, whether at the river, or in the ocean. That's why the symbol of the Dragon in the Gayong logo representing the strength in the water. In the history also written the strength of the Bani Umayyah (since the Khulafah Ar-Rasyidin), Abbasid, Fatimid, or Uthmaniyah (Ottoman) in their Navy force. As once the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "I saw my coming ummah like a king on the ocean" (au kamakola Raslullah saw). The prophet had foreseen that Islam will be spread all over the world through the sea.

Everything that will bring good will be considered as an A'mal. As for us, we tried to create that opportunity especially for the KK5 students to learn the swimming, the archery, the horse riding and also the martial arts. Alhamdoulliah, we had the instructors from the Navy that taught everyone from the basic, to the technique of saving someone, and also the free-fall technique from the height. And for sure, all of the members of the Naga Rantau will undergo regular swimming training as one of their requirement in the additional skill a part than the Silat Seni Gayong.

The Prophetic Archery (Memanah Sunnah) is an art of the archery in the way the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) taught. One of the 'sanad' (lineage) of the Sunnah of the archery is from one of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) companion, Hadrat Sa'ad bin Abi Waqas r.a. The western style of archery is a little bit different compared with the Memanah Sunnah.

The method of 'thumb'-ring, as one of the signification of the Syahadah when releasing the arrow as a full Tawakkal to the God the Almighty is one of the philosophy in the Memanah Sunnah. With the level target it is totally depending on the feel which is the Soufist always says "Rasa". The training was divided in 3 parts: Ground Archery, Combat Archery and Horse Riding Archery. Since it was only the introductory workshop, we limited the contents only to the first part. My Gayong brother Cikgu Arifin Bastan and family, Pak Anwar (Principal of KK1), Mr. Nasrul (Principal of KK2), Ustaz Abduh (KK4), Mr. Khairul (KK5), Mme Liyana (KK5), Miss Zainon (KK5), Mr. Aqla (JPPH) were among those who participated.

Alhamdoulillah, our instructor came from KL, Master Azizul, who was Anak Gayong and now concentrating on the Memanah Sunnah under the name of "BOW & ARROW". I would like to thank both of Master Azizul and wife, for coming and sharing your valuable knowledge and skill with all of the student of KK5. Thank you again and insyaAllah the next time, it will be a Horse Riding Archery! ;)
